Fall 2019 Anime Lineup – The Mid-season Review

Posted by : zahid

Delving deeper into the fall 2019 anime lineup, we are now entering the 2nd half of the season and thus, Yu Alexius team is proud to present our list of best anime of the season far in our mid-season review. The entire lineup of the season had been a fascinating one so far and gives us a new flavor as opposed to the summer season which was rich in shounen-anime lineup. In fact, we have wide arrays of interesting genre this season not only revolving around shounen but one thing is sure though, dramatic series had been really doing well this season.

To deliver, our mid-season review of anime series airing as part of the fall2019 lineup, I will include the leftover shows from the previous season and that includes Dr.STONE, Vinland Saga, and Fire Force – three (3) notorious top-notched shounen anime of 2019.

Alright, let’s start our list with our top-rated anime series of the season so far as follows:

Fall 2019 Mid-season Review: Best Anime So Far

Despite having minimal scenes for Akane, and one cameo appearance of Shinya and Ginoza, Psycho-Pass Season 3 is actually doing well for a sequel with only few of its characters from the previous seasons appearing in the scene and with two new main characters taking the limelight from them. Arata and Kei were good protagonists though and it’s amazing how they could cooperate with each other despite the dark past that revolved around them. Although it’s not clear yet who the real enemies were, I felt like we are facing into a big and exciting journey in Psycho-Pass Season 3 and it shouts action, and more.

The biggest surprise this season is definitely Sword Art Online, and I felt like A-1 Pictures could somehow give us more seeing how well-animated and written in the current season of the anime despite its terrible run in the first half of the 4-cour story of Sword Art Online: Alicization. We didn’t see Kirito in action yet but it feels great to know who the enemies are, their backstory, and with the Integrity Knights finally redeeming themselves after being the opponent of the main characters from the previous cour, as well as having them struggle to protect the human empire from the invasion of the Dark Territory.

One of our nominees for ANIME OF THE YEAR, Kono Oto Tomare! simply have that magic that makes you fall in love with it over and over again. It is one of the best drama anime this season, and it is even more amazing to finally get a glimpse at the backstory of Hozoki on a deeper level. Furthermore, it’s great to see the progress of the members of the Koto club and how they face their demons and weaknesses. Another plus points were the budding romances in the story despite not really giving too much attention to it.

Yes, a sports-anime finally taking the upper echelon of our list this year and it’s not just some kind of sports anime, as it’s definitely an inspiring and exciting one to follow. I could definitely feel the Slam Dunk vibes here and the influence of other sports-shounen anime, but there’s something special with Ahiru no Sora that touched your hearts on so many levels.

One of the leftovers shows from the Summer 2019 Anime Lineup is here and it’s just really getting, even more, better in narrating its story as it finally went as flashy as the quality of its animation which was solidly done.  Although, I have to admit that at some point at the beginning of Fall season, Vinland Saga had been a little bit boring on my end until I found out it’s just the calm before the storm as we’re getting intense episodes in the last few weeks from this masterpiece from WIT Studio.

Fall 2019 Mid-season Review: Best Anime So Far

Definitely, the most stable and consistent among the leftover shows of the previous season and even this fall is Dr.STONE, the amazing storytelling and exciting story that made us look forward to every next episode of the series had been the case this season. Dr.STONE also gave us some of the most memorable jokes of the year, and the glimpse at the backstory of Senku’s father and his team from outer space is just heart-melting. Now, I just can’t wait to see the Kingdom of Science and Tsukasa Empire to clash and for Senku to finally reunite with Taiju and Yuzuriha.

The flashiest anime of the year and always burning finally bared its fang this season as it gives us entertaining action-packed episodes this season. I really think that I’ve fallen for Benimaru Shinmon, and with the White-clad finally appearing – it’s no secret anymore that some more flashy fight scenes are coming soon and with our favorite fire soldiers from different divisions put all their power together to defeat the greater evil (quite your typical shounen plot though). Oh, lately I think Joker is an interesting figure in the story too which makes me want to know more about him.

Bloody and dramatic! I don’t know but I felt like I am the only enjoying this reboot of Blade of the Immortal. The fight scenes were simply insane and bloody, I don’t like gory stuff but I definitely enjoyed this anime so I think it’s victorious on getting my attention and makes me even want to know more about the characters in its story. I felt like every episode tells a story of the harsh reality of the samurai world and how painful are the sacrifices and burdens that they must bear.

Karuta is definitely a fun game, isn’t it? Chihayafuru season 3 is giving us an exciting ride of drama, tidbits of romance, and the world of competitive Karuta. I am really enjoying how fascinating and interesting playing Karuta is, and how our favorite characters from the story face their emotions and learn more about life from their experience in playing Karuta.

Not your typical sports anime, there’s more to its drama and I really felt it is quite addicting paired with catchy and bop music. It is quite gay in so many ways but I think that’s what makes Hoshiai no Sora an interesting one to follow, as well as the story behind each member of the Male Soft Tennis Club.

Fall 2019 Mid-season Review: Best Anime So Far

The 4th season of My Hero Academia is definitely giving us a good ride this season though I felt like it has some lackluster because I believe that it could do even better or maybe I did just expect too much, after all My Hero Academia is our anime of the year last 2018. Although, I believe that the anime didn’t bare its fangs yet and still building that momentum to finally explode it’s amazing story this season.

Personally, one of my favorite anime this season and I am really enjoying the fight scenes and the music in this anime. This is the only story of Fate where I did root for Gilgamesh to be around. It seems that there is more to the conspiracy behind the events in journey of our main characters into the age of the gods as they travel back in time to retrieve the Holy Grail.

And here, we have one of the most psychologically-disturbing anime of the year as well as having one of the most intriguing female anime characters of 2019 – Babylon. It all started weak for me until it slowly bares its fangs and how deep it could be until it eventually exploded with so much political-crime thriller vibes in the later episodes. Then, we’ve been surprised big time with the 7th episode which scares the hell out of my league by showing us a heartbreaking and literally insane episode filled with philosophical conflicts and leave us questions about what is right, what is evil, what is accepted by the norms, and what is there left to be done by our main character.

Creepy and cringed at some point, Beastars had been an exciting ride of action, psychological thrill, and a bit of romance. The unique approach of this anime towards the issue on moral standards had been a great aspect of the story to watch out for.

I am not a big fan of this anime, to be honest but I definitely had a blast in the recent episodes of Food Wars season 4. It’s both hilarious and interesting, and most of the time it’s making me hungry for no apparent reason aside from its lusciously-looking cuisines. The characters are always interesting as ever but I felt like we have too many this season and sometimes it quite hard to identify each of them. The visuals and animation are solid this time though, a big leaped from the little mess that J.C. Staff did with the previous season’s DanMachi 2nd Season and A Certain Scientific Accelerator. Good job to their team this time!

Fall 2019 Mid-season Review: Best Anime So Far

This anime had been a big surprise for me as I never intended to have this on my watchlist when the season started. However, I saw it and decided to watch it randomly and I fell in love with all the music in it ever since. The characters are fun, it’s not unique but definitely has decent animation and with gradual character development – this anime could be a very good one. I also enjoyed every bit of humor embedded in its story.

Nariyuki and his girls continue to give us an insane and hilarious season after their stint from spring this year. I think it’s pretty consistent and always been able to deliver what it supposed to deliver and that is to make us all laugh in so many ridiculous ways as possible. At the same time, I just can’t stop myself from shipping Nariyuki and Furuhashi big time, and all the ladies finally have shown a little bit of themselves more than usual.

At first, I was quite skeptical about this isekai anime until I saw how interesting it is with my own eyes. It’s nothing spectacular and follows the same path as the other isekai anime of the recent years but I really enjoyed almost every character in their group and how they will conquer the new world where they discovered themselves. Obviously, I want to see them clashed against the empire and surprise those ill-mannered nobles in the story, and destroy them.

This is a personal favorite of mine and definitely one of the biggest surprises this season for me. This is not the typical isekai anime story that I used to watch and I definitely enjoyed its plot. Obviously, there’s still the cliché of the overpowered main character who got transported into another world but there’s a limit to her (in this case it’s her newly acquired body which is frail). I also like the fact that Ascendance of a Bookworm somehow gives me that Spice & Wolf merchant vibes.

Assassins Pride started as one of the strongest anime of the season for me until it eventually loses its magic in the succeeding episodes. I think it’s the uninteresting matchup between the two main characters, and having a ‘loli’ heroine for this story is quite dragging for me. Nonetheless, Kufa Vampir is definitely one of the most interesting male characters this season, and the fight scenes of this anime are among its redeeming factors for me.

And this is our current mid-season review showing our Top 20 Anime of Fall 2019. Which anime airing this season is your favorite? Plunderer TV Anime Adaptation
Plunderer TV Anime Adaptation

An interesting fantasy-adventure anime, that is what we’re about to witness in the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Plunderer – Suu Minazuki’s action-fantasy anime series. In this post, I would like to share some basic information that you may find helpful if you’re still hesitating to add Plunderer in your watchlist for the Winter 2020 anime lineup. However, for those people who had read the manga and enjoying, I am pretty confident that they already have the upcoming anime on their list for next year.

This post about Plunderer anime adaptation will cover the following sections:
  • Overview of Plunderer & its Synopsis
  • Plunderer Release Date
  • Cast & Staff
  • Posters & Trailers
  • Expectations for the Anime

Alright, let’s start our overview of Plunderer. Although the title actually sounds lame, the story isn’t what it seems like on the surface. Plunderer is basically a pretty generic action-fantasy story, however, it definitely catchy and once you started delving into its world, it’s a story that you’ll fall in love over and over again without being flashy or over the top.

The upcoming Plunderer TV animeis based on a manga series with the same title written and illustrated by Suu Minazuki who is also known for his other work, the manga series Heaven's Lost Property. The manga was first serialized on Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine on December 26, 2014.

In a post-apocalyptic world dominated by the so-called "Numbers," each human will have their identity branded with their own "Count," which could define any number related to their life. May it be one's walked distance or amount of compliments given to them by others, this Count could lead them to the abyss when it has dropped to zero. In the year 305 of the Alcian calendar, Hina has inherited a mission from her Mother, whose Count has depreciated to zero, to search for the Legendary Red Baron. In her adventure, she meets a half-masked swordsman named Licht who tries to hide his identity, as he is known as a degenerate for having an incredibly low Count. (Source: MAL News)

Alright, so the question now is that, what we should expect from the upcoming anime adaptation of Plunderer.

Plunderer Manga

Typical Shounen Anime Cliché

Yes, the story of Plunderer is just like any other fantasy-adventure anime but what’s good to look forward in it is the fact that it’s getting addicting once you delved deeper into its story. This has been the flaws of many shounen-anime shows as they became stagnant and left its plot stays on the surface. Nonetheless, the manga had been a pretty interesting ride, giving off so many Heaven’s Lost Property vibes. However, it still depends whether the anime could implement this magic into its production and it could only be learned when Plunderer TV anime officially kick-off.

Random Dosage of Ecchi

While for some anime fans, this is a big turn off, I have to admit that many people nowadays find entertainment in the existence of ecchi in the anime series, albeit on a moderate degree. After all, majority of the anime series nowadays have heavy dosage of fan service which could either make it or break it for the whole show.

Beautiful Art & Characters

As I said, we’ll have that spectacular Heaven’s Lost Property vibes here with seemingly interesting characters. And the world-setting is something to look forward as it really looks fascinating… and intriguing.

Most of the manga readers have mixed opinions about the story especially with so many plot twists that took place in the middle of its run. Nonetheless, we will not sure yet how far does the anime adaptation will go. So, we’ll find that out soon once the anime had been released since the total number of episodes for the anime, wasn’t revealed yet.

In the end, I have Plunderer as one of my most highly anticipated TV anime adaptation in the first quarter of 2020. If you have read the manga of Plunderer, what are your expectations on its anime series? Please let us know by leaving your comment in the comment section.

List of the Best Romance Comedy Anime Series in the Recent Years

Posted by : zahid

Best Romance Comedy Anime Series 2018-2019

Hey guys, have you ever wondered what are some of the best romantic comedy anime these last few years? I have noticed that the last five (5) years (2015-2019) – there had been plenty of romantic comedy series invading the anime community and while most of them were simply generic and sometimes no good at all, there had been astonishing anime titles that gave us an interesting and fascinating ride with its heavy dosage of comedy, and teenage romantic cliché.

In this post, I will share some of the best rom-com anime in recent years and I will start to cover those shows that aired in the last 2 years: 2018-2019. This is actually a vague topic but I’ll limit it with the new releases as I was planning to make a separate post for the other series that aired earlier than 2018.

O Maidens in Your Savage Season

O Maidens in Your Savage Season

Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo. – Alright, we have here one of the best coming-of-age anime stories that I had seen so far, and I really love how well-written it is and raise awareness towards teenage issues involving curiosity about sex, teenage pregnancy, pedophilia, and ambiguity in one’s sexual orientation. The romance and comedy in this anime are also pretty interesting which makes the story even more amazing, and yes, O Maidens in Your Savage Season had given us an honest and sincere take on teenage romance with literary coating.

Skilled Teaser Takagi-san  Season 2

Skilled Teaser Takagi-san Season 2

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san Season 2   Definitely one of the most adorable romance comedy anime of all time, Skilled Teaser Takagi-san somehow gave us an innocent and adorable take on romance story with a heavy dosage of comedy and slice-of-life in every episode. In fact, this is a great leaped and inclining more on the romance aspect of the story now compared to its first season.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War

Kaguya-sama: Love is War

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen – Outrageous, funny and well-written with prideful tsundere main characters, that is what you should expect when watching Kaguya-sama: Love is War. I believe this anime brings the romance comedy on a different height with its unique approach to the genre as opposed to the typical harem romance comedy story. There’s no harem here but simply interesting warfare between our two main characters while bringing the whole story to a big mess with help of two more supporting characters that we all love. This anime definitely has the most interesting set of student council members, isn’t it?

Senryu Girl

Senryuu Shoujo – Romantic? Yes! Funny? Definitely! Senryu Girl is one of the most innocent romance comedy anime that I have seen this 2019 and it is no doubt an amazing series thriving in its simplicity and bare honesty.

We Never Learn!: BOKUBEN

We Never Learn!: BOKUBEN

Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai! – The strongest point of this anime is definitely its interesting series of coincidence which always ended up as either a disaster or a redeeming start for our main protagonist Nariyuki Yuiga. Bokuben is the harem that you’ll both enjoy with its generic plot of high school romance comedy story but with a sincere effort to make the viewers laugh to their heart’s content.

ORESUKI: Are you the one who loves me?

ORESUKI: Are you the one who loves me?

Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo – I say this one is quite shameless but neatly written. I just can’t imagine how amazing the author is behind this anime and the cliché that they’re using is seriously effective to the extent that ORESUKI as an anime could be a hilarious parody anime of other romantic comedy anime out there. Nonetheless, I love the stints they are doing with the infamous BENCH.

Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie?

Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie?

Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka? – This one is absolutely obnoxious but I definitely enjoyed it and the smile that it brought on my face is definitely genuine. If Oresuki has the infamous BENCH, then Hensuki has the notorious PANTY and this is definitely the pervert Cinderella-like high school romance story of 2019. Nevertheless, I really love the song in this anime, especially its opening theme.

Ao-chan Can't Study!

Ao-chan Can't Study!

Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai – This is definitely another shameless anime in our list, yes, there’s an ounce of romance here but it’s more delving deeper on the shameless and pervert comedy aspect but it’s definitely fun watching it.

The Quintessential Quintuplets

The Quintessential Quintuplets

Go-toubun no Hanayome – We have here a funny harem anime that have the same vibes as Bokuben and revolved around our main hero tutoring beautiful ladies but the entire learning journey ended up to be quite a messy disaster filled with so much comedy and romance.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai – Here we have one of the best anime of 2018, and it’s definitely a top-notched romance anime in the recent years. This is an anime that will make you fall in love and the at same time laugh to your heart’s content.

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii – Love story revolving around otaku people had always been a pretty common cliché in the plot of anime nowadays and here Wotakoi is no exception. However, it is a well-received and well-loved romance comedy anime by many viewers due to its weird but interesting combination of main characters – an otaku and a fujoshi.

Tada Never Falls in Love

Tada Never Falls in Love

Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai – This anime is not perfect but definitely far from trash, I actually included this as one of our Top 20 Anime of 2018 and it’s just an amazing ride filled with romance, comedy, and high school drama of a teenager. The anime had been pretty promising in the beginning, though I have to admit that I did find some flaws in the latter part, but it’s tolerable and what who wouldn’t fall in love with our handsome main character and his dazzling princess?

Skilled Teaser Takagi-san

Skilled Teaser Takagi-san

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san – This is the first season of the anime and this had been an adorable and cute watching experience. The anime is relaxing, funny, and romantic to a certain degree which will make you fall in love with it over and over again.

Boarding School Juliet

Boarding School Juliet

Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet – Here we have a different approach to a romance anime story with the cliché of the classic Romeo and Juliet plot. Nonetheless, this is a different story, and a hilarious ride at some point for our two main characters who love each other.

And that ends our list of best romantic comedy anime of 2018 and 2019which I believe definitely gave us an amazing amount of humor during its runtime and was able to deliver smiles and laughter in our faces in one way or another.

Are there any other anime titles that you would like to be included in this list? I’ll be more than happy to learn about your thoughts as well as suggestions. Please let us know by leaving your comment below.

Who Are the Best Players of Team Happy from The King’s Avatar?

Posted by : zahid
Team Happy from The King’s Avatar

Hey guys, have you ever wondered who are the best players of Team Happyfrom the popular Chinese web novel The King’s Avatar? I know that I am not the only one who had that question in my head and I’ll be happy to discuss my thoughts about this topic here and I am inviting everyone to share their thoughts about this topic.

In this post, I will cover all the members of Team Happy from the novel when they joined the 10th season of Glory Professional Alliance, therefore I would like to warn everyone that this post may contain spoilers especially for viewers who had only seen the anime. In fact, even the live-action adaptation of The King’s Avatar didn’t reach this point yet when its first season ended. However, I am expecting the 10th season of competition to be included in the highly anticipated return of the live-action in 2020.

First, it is no doubt that Ye Xiu will stand in the no. 1 of the list but who will follow next and succeeding names were truly interesting to know, isn’t it? However, I’ll start our discussion with the list of the members of Team Happy during their stints int he 10th season of Glory Professional Alliance with its official roster as follows:

Team Happy from The King’s Avatar

Team Captain

  • Ye Xiu

  • Su Mucheng

Main Roster

  • Fang Rui
  • Tang Rou
  • Qiao Yifan
  • Bao Rongxing
  • Wei Chen
  • An Wenyi
  • Mo Fan
  • Luo Ji

Alright, let’s start our list of the best team members of Team Happy and I’ll be grateful to know about your feedback about it.

The King's Avatar - Team Happy Members

Team Happy - YE XIU

There’s no doubt about this because Ye Xiu had always been the peak of Glory, not just in his own team but in the entire alliance. His vast knowledge about different classes, his tactics which could be both shameless and fearsome, and his passion towards Glory was simply undisputed. Compared to his own team members, no one can stand at the top of this list other than him as there’s a huge gap between him and the rest of his team in terms of experience, knowledge, and skills. Ye Xiu eventually became the leader of the Chinese Glory team at the end of the novel, leading the best players of the Chinese Professional Alliance. In our list of best team captains from the alliance, Ye Xiu also finished at the top despite the close competition with Yu Wenzhou and Wang Jiexi.

Team Happy - SU MUCHENG

Alright, second in our list is our lovely lady Su Mucheng who may not be the best female player in the alliance but she’s definitely capable of stealing that title any moment. In the novel, we had seen her growth as she became independent from the shadows of Ye Xiu and eventually became a terrifying and ferocious player in her own right, surprising even some of the best players in the alliance when she went in the arena. At the end of the novel, Su Mucheng became a member of the Chinese Glory Team along with Ye Xiu and she also became the new captain of Team Happy aside from being the best launcher in the alliance.

Team Happy - FANG RUI

The master of playing dirty is third in our list, and I believe he could even snatch second place from Su Mucheng in selected conditions. He has vast knowledge of the game too, and also versatile in playing different classes but not on the same level as Ye Xiu. Although, if he has enough experience as our Glory’s Textbook, he could be a successor for Lord Grim too, though I am afraid Lord Grim will end up to be even more shameless. Nonetheless, he used to be the no. 1 Thief-player in the alliance and now, he could also compete with the title of the best and shameless Qi Master-player in the alliance too.

Team Happy - QIAO YIFAN

I am actually not sure whether to put Qiao YiFan or Tang Rou first but looking at the perspective of a professional player, Qiao Yifan has more qualities that make him an outstanding player than our fearless lady Tang Rou. Qiao Yifan has so much potential in it and I wouldn’t mind if he could be the next captain of Team Happy in the near future.

Team Happy - TANG ROU

She’s ferocious, unstoppable, and bold – we all love this part of Tang Rou, and being a prodigy she had been built to be an achiever. She definitely proved it already plenty of a time how competitive she is and that’s the most amazing part of her as well as her downfall at some point. She always strives for new heights, and she always gives her best to the point of being stubborn. Her hand speed is definitely top-notched and I believed she has the highest APM in their team – though Fang Rui and Mo Fan could compete with her in hand speed but only in limited period of time.

Team Happy - MO FAN

Our lone ninja is next in the list. Ability wise, Mo Fan is definitely one of the best and strongest players of Team Happy although we all know that his downside is on his character as an individual, as a person. His anti-social behavior and silent-type nature had been great hindrance to him assimilating with the team in the early stage, and I think it is also one of the reasons why he couldn’t gather information, experience efficiently. If he could finally break that chain, he is definitely a beast that will run amok in the alliance someday.

We have Steamed Bun Invasion here which is one of the most chaotic characters in the story of The King’s Avatar so far. He is unpredictable and weird which makes him an independent denominator in the competition in so many ways. He could be a bane both to his team and to their enemies. However, if we will look at the technical skills of Bao Rongxing, he could definitely compete against the likes of Mo Fan, Qiao Yifan, and Tang Rou – although most of these young players from Team Happy are fighting personal circumstances on their own which were part of their own personality and individuality.

Team Happy - WEI CHEN

This old general whose hand speed and technical skills are deteriorating sits at our 8th spot. Wei Chen's strongest point here is definitely his experience and knowledge; added with his shamelessness, that makes him a powerful foe especially for younger players who are quite weak in psychological aspect.

Team Happy - AN WENYI

There’s not much to compare An Wenyi with his other team members because his character is a cleric, character-wise it is not easy to compare their strengths. However, everybody knows that An Wenyi is Happy’s weakness as had been average in so many aspects of professional gaming skills except for his precise decision-making ability and strong psychological strength. Though he is definitely trying his best to be better and contribute more to the success of the team and that alone is a redeeming factor worth to mention.

Team Happy - LUO JI

We have here the genius but not in playing Glory on-hand. Luo Ji is a great analytical thinker and definitely one of the smartest characters in the series when it comes to theoretical thinking. However, his biggest weakness is the fact that he is a beginner and his actual technical skills are a huge mess. Nonetheless, he could still play in the actual game and it’s amazing that Ye Xiu and his team have faith in him. I dare say, he could be a great heir for Ye Xiu’s title as one of the FOUR MASTER TACTICIAN.

And that ends my list of ranking for the members of team Happy. Please let me know who do you think should be rank higher and why is that so? You may leave your thoughts in the comment section below and I think it’ll be amazing to discuss this. I have not included Wu Chen, and Chen Gou in this since they are not listed as part of the main roster in the 10th season of the game though they are part of the team during their stints in the Challenger’s League.

5 of the Best Comedy Anime from China You Should Add in Your Watchlist

Posted by : zahid

Chinese animation had been rising these past few years and it’s amazing to see a new set of astounding anime titles getting the attention they deserve. As Chinese anime shows rise in popularity and if we take a look at the list of Chinese anime every year, we could see that there’s a rapid increase in its volume starting 2016, it’s always a good thing to have many options for the anime viewers. From a personal perspective, I’d been a fan of Chinese anime since 2017 ever since The King’s Avatar captivated my heart and I’ve been binge-watching different donghua (Chinese animation) since then.

Best Comedy Anime from China
The Chinese animation industry may not be as large as the Japanese animation and its community; however, it also has wide arrays of interesting genre worth checking out. Though Martial-arts or cultivation anime had been the most popular as well as the romance-comedy series, these genres were among the most rampant in the Chinese anime community. Nowadays, cultivation anime was mostly based on popular Xianxia web novels or light novels which typically appeal to the viewers who like the shounen-genre. Another noteworthy genre that dominates Chinese animation these days is comedy and I really love how the traditional Chinese culture could be easily fitted with varying sense of humor from different generations. In fact, there are plenty of funny Chinese anime with very effective humor no matter what the timeline of the story is – may it be a historical anime, or set in modern era, even those anime with story set in alternate universe or an isekai; comedy anime from China were efficient in injecting parodies too from different culture around the world.

In this list, I will share 5 of the best Chinese comedy anime that I had seen and I do hope that this donghua will also make you smile, and laugh – hoping it could take away a single ounce of stress from your system. Nonetheless, if you prepared yourself to embark on watching them, I highly advise you to be strong as comedy anime from China is seriously different from the other comedy anime that you might have seen before.

A shortlist of these Chinese comedy anime is as follows:
  • Everlasting Immortal Firmament
  • JX3: Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin
  • 100,000 Bad Jokes
  • Psychic Princess
  • Lu’s Time

The List

Everlasting Immortal Firmament

Everlasting Immortal Firmament
Everlasting Immortal Firmament
Wangu Xian Qiong - First in our list is a hilarious one and definitely among the most ridiculous and absurd anime series that I had seen so far. It is a parody, kind of satire with utmost sarcasm – Everlasting Immortal Firmament could also be an isekai but quite a confusing one or maybe it’s just me who cannot comprehend some of its underlying clichés. Although, Everlasting Immortal Firmament humor is quite harsh and holds no bar as its jokes could be dirty and even fitted with heavy racism. However, if you wouldn’t mind those aspects, I am sure that you’ll have a great time having those hilarious smile carved in your face while watching this Chinese anime.

Psychic Princess

Psychic Princess (Tong Ling Fei)
Psychic Princess
Tong Ling Fei - Here we have a shoujo in our list as Psychic Princess is one of the best Chinese romantic comedy anime in existence. This Chinese anime is another historical drama but with a heroine who is quite ahead of her time and that’s what makes this series interesting. Imagine having some crazy hilarious female protagonist who is not a damsel in distress and her prince charming – a tsundere prince who is always doubtful about his lady. I felt like he might be trying to compete against Seiya Ryuuguuin from Cautious Hero for being overly cautious and doubtful (haha, pun intended).

In the end, Psychic Princess had been a great ride filled with an amazing combination of romance, comedy, action, and absurd hilarious cliché. Although, I am sharing the same sentiments with almost everyone who had watched it that the anime ended as a cliffhanger – thus, we all need Psychic Princess Season 2 as soon as possible, and yes this is a psychotic order from its fans.

100,000 Bad Jokes

100,000 Bad Jokes Chinese Anime
100,000 Bad Jokes or also known as 100,000 Cold Jokes
Shi Wan Ge Leng Xiaohua - We have here a dangerous anime; yes a dangerous one because it can destroy some long-established impressions that we have about various topics from our childhood days. 100,000 Bad Jokes accumulated a total of 3 seasons anime series and 2 side story films which simply proved that these anime have plenty of ways to entertain us in the most hilarious way. The short anime which runs for only 7-minute per episode is an outstanding comedy-parody series that brings different takes on various topics including classic literature, folktales, and modern comics, and animations from different parts of the world.

Lu’s Time

Lu’s Time Chinese Anime

Lu Shidai - Also known as League of Legends the animation by some viewers – Lu’s Time is an interesting take on online players of the game League of Legends (LOL). Although it inclines more in absurd humor and random cliché of teenagers life, Lu’s Time actually have good fight scenes at some point especially inside the game – which reminds me of The King’s Avatar although Lu’s Time was released several years before the phenomenal e-sports anime (The King’s Avatar) bring the donghua industry into its new height in 2017. I really enjoyed that the romance aspect was still able to insert in its story despite how chaotic most of its episodes were due to heavy dosage of vulgar humor in it. Nonetheless, I truly enjoyed watching Lu’s Time but I wouldn’t dare to watch this in the public since some of the humor here was just simply blatantly disgusting.

JX3: Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin

JX3: Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin Chinese Anime
JX3: Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin
Alright, we have another interesting Chinese anime here and it’s a funny combination of parody and cultivation story in an almost isekai set up. Just like any other cultivation anime, JX3: Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin’s main hero learns a secret technique accidentally (this cliché is very common in Chinese anime though), and as he strives to become a legendary hero, he embarked on a journey and experience life in the pugilistic world during the Tang Dynasty (sounds like an isekai, right?) – from there, his journey to becoming a legendary hero began.

When I first saw that trailer of JX3: Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin, I thought I have heading into another experience of Everlasting Immortal Firmament but such is not the case as this anime offered a different type of tea than the other.

Well, that ends my list of best Chinese comedy anime and I do hope that you’ll enjoy watching it the same way as I did. There might be some rough time with it especially those with an absurd and shameless plot, but it’s definitely worth it to see it through the end. If you’re a sucker for comedy anime, then this list is definitely for you.

In case you have watched any of this anime, can you tell me your thoughts about it? I’ll be happy to learn about your experience while watching it, you may leave your comment below to share your thoughts.
