Flat as a Board

Posted by : zahid
In anime, "flat as a board" is a rude way to describe flat-chested characters, who have "small breasts"," hin'nyuu 貧乳.

This everybody knows. What you may not know is that there are two different terms for this in Japanese, depending on the sort of board.

Sword Art Online III – War of the Underworld: The Last Season – Release Date and Updates

Posted by : zahid
Sword Art Online III – War of the Underworld: The Last Season

The final showdown which will decide the fate of the Underworld is about to happen in the highly anticipated return of Sword Art Online for the final installment of the Alicization Arc three-cour series. The third and final season of Sword Art Online III: Alicization will finally have its ultimate clash of good and evil in this virtual set battlefield.

The first part of Sword Art Online III Alicization had premiered in October 2018 and then followed by the second chapter of the story on Sword Art Online III – War of the Underworld which aired in October 2019. Personally, I am more amazed and left in awe with how amazing the entire Alicization Arc is but the real excitement for me really started with the War of the Underworld which really gives so much drama and action. In fact, War of the Underworldlanded at no. 6 of my top 40 anime list of 2019 just behind the other giants like Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, and Dr. Stone.

In this post, I will share several details that we need to know about the upcoming anime which includes its release date, the returning cast & staff, as well as what to expect from it based on available information from the novel.

Sword Art Online III – War of the Underworld: The Last Season Release Date

Also known as Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of the Underworld Part 2, the anime release is scheduled on April 25, 2020, as part of the spring anime lineup. Furthermore, there will be a special episode which will be released on April 11 and a recap of the first-cour of War of the Underworld on April 18. The anime will premiere on several Japanese TV stations including Tokyo MX, BS11, MBS, and AbemaTV. [Update: Due to CoVid-19 issues in Japan, Sword Art Online III War of the Underworld Part 2 release had been moved to summer 2020.

Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of the Underworld Part 2

There had been teaser video for Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of the Underworld Part 2 and it shows Asuna, Sinon, and Leafa taking their stance against the Dark God Vecta as the Underworld had been in a dire situation after our evil guy captured the priestess of light – Alice. In the trailer, Kirito finally has his awakened appearance and therefore, he’ll definitely be in action in this climactic showdown of good and evil for the survival of the Underworld and its inhabitant.

Sword Art Online III (Alicization Arc - War of the Underworld) Plot

Despite the defeat of Quinella—the pontifex of the Axiom Church—things have not seemed to calm down yet. Upon contacting the real world, Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya finds out that the Ocean Turtle—a mega-float controlled by Rath—was raided. Due to a sudden short-circuit caused by the raiders, Kirito's fluctlight is damaged, leaving him comatose. Feeling insecure about the people at the Axiom Church, Alice brings the unconscious Kirito back to their hometown—Rulid Village, disregarding her banishment due to an unabsolved crime. Now, Alice is living an ordinary and peaceful life close by the village, wishing for Kirito to wake up. However, tragedy strikes when Alice notices that the Dark Territory has already started to invade the Human Empire. Reassuming her previous alias, Alice Synthesis Thirty, she promises to defeat the Dark Territory in order to defend the world that Kirito and Eugeo worked so hard to protect. shinkon santaku 新婚三択

Posted by : zahid
In Japanese, shinkon santaku 新婚三択, meaning "newly-wed three choices," refers to a scenario in which a newly wed husband arrives home to his newly wed wife, who provides him with three choices:

おかえりなさいあなた♡ お風呂にする? ご飯にする? それとも・・・わ♡た♡し♡?
Manga: Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san すのはら荘の管理人さん (Volume 1, Chapter 9, Page 80)
  • Context: Yukimoto Yuzu 雪本柚子 imagines herself as a bride who would support her future husband.
  • okaerinasai anata ♡
    [Welcome home, dear.]
    • anata
      You. (second person pronoun.)
Sometimes used by a wife to refer to her husband.
  • ofuro ni suru?
    gohan ni suru?
    soretomo... wa... ta... shi...?

[What do you want to do]?
[Eat]? [Take a] bath? Or... me?
    • soretomo watashi
Or me. (often pronounced with coquettish pauses between syllables.)
    • gohan means a "meal," and can be "lunch" or "dinner." It's normally dinner since the scenario is usually about a husband coming home from work.
    • ni suru にする means to settle on doing something. It doesn't carry a sexual innuendo like "do me" in English. Although suru する alone, "to do [it]," is sometimes an innuendo for "to have sex."

Despite the name, most instances of this scenario do not happen between newly wed couples, or even wed couples, just between any two random characters.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2 – Release Date, Plot & Further Updates

Posted by : zahid
Ascendance of a Bookworm Cover

Maine, Lutz, and the rest of the gang from one of the most adorable and relaxing slice of life anime from the fall 2019 lineup is coming back this April and that is in the upcoming Ascendance of a Bookworm season 2. If I have to recall my experience of watching this anime last year, it all started a little bit dull but slowly rise to the top among my list of favorite anime from that season. Well, who wouldn’t fall in love with Main – our main protagonist who got transmigrated into another world and the only desire she has is to read books but in search of books to read, she had a life-changing experience in this unknown new world. Yes, Ascendance of a Bookworm is another isekaianime story but is quite unique and that sets it apart from the rest of other isekai stories nowadays. While we seldom see some actions, Main’s innovative idea of bringing the concepts and inventions from her world of origin into this new fantasy world had been a fascinating one and I am always enthralled of seeing that WOW factor from the faces of the people around her every time she shared new ideas to them.

Ascendance of a Bookworm had ended quite dramatically last December and we were left hanging since then, as we are craving to see how Main will conquer her terminal illness – the Devouring. How her life will change now that she entered the temple as one of the maidens. Obviously, we are also excited to see more inventions from her as she shared it with Lutz, Benno, and the rest of the merchants that we also loved.

In this post, I will share some details about the upcoming anime Ascendance of a Bookworm season 2 including its release date, what to expect from its story, the cast & staff, and some teaser videos to further add excitement as we wait for the anime’s return on April.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Overview

The isekaifantasy slice-of-life anime is based on Japanese light novel series titled Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen (Lover of Books: I Can’t Choose the means to become a Librarian) by author Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina. The novel originally runs from September 2013 until March 2017 at Shousetsuka ni Narou. Meanwhile, the light novel was published by TO Booksand run from January 2015 to present, with a total of 22 volumes as of writing.

Ascendance of a Bookworm also gets a manga adaptation which was divided into 3-parts. All published by TO Books but the first 2 manga were illustrated by Suzuka, and the 3rdby Ryo Namino.

The anime adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm premiered on October 3, 2019, from Ajia-do Animation Works which run with 14 episodes. The season 2 or its 2ndcour is slated to air this April 2020.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Plot

Urano Motosu loves books and has an endless desire to read literature, no matter the subject. She almost fulfills her dream job of becoming a librarian before her life is ended in an accident. As she draws her last breath, she wishes to be able to read more books in her next life. As if fate was listening to her prayer, she wakes up reincarnated as Myne—a frail five-year-old girl living in a medieval era. What immediately comes to her mind is her passion. She tries to find something to read, only to become frustrated by the lack of books at her disposal. Without the printing press, books have to be written and copied by hand, making them very expensive; as such, only a few nobles can afford them—but this won't stop Myne. She will prove that her will to read is unbreakable, and if there are no books around, she will make them herself! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2 Release Date

The anime is scheduled to return on April as part of the spring 2020 anime lineup. It’s amazing that we don’t need to wait that long for the sequel to finally premiere and sometimes, the wait could actually kill the excitement. Thus, Ascendance of a Bookworm is among my most anticipated sequel this 2020 as it is coming back fresh from its previous season which ended last December. Ascendance of a Bookworm season 2 release date is on April 5, 2020. However, prior to the season 2 release – there will be two OVA episodes titled A House to Call to Ms. Coleena, and Yustux’ Master Plan for Downtown Infiltration – both will be released on March 10, 2020.

Trailers & Teaser Videos

We have here the previously released teaser trailer for the return of Ascendance of a Bookworm this 2020.

Now, what should we expect from Main? On my end, I am simply craving to see her revealed more ideas and inventions, while also striving to have her dream of making and reading books come true. Obviously, there is still a long way for her in order to reach that but I am really excited to see how she will achieve her goal especially now that she’s fighting the Devouring. I am also looking forward to what will be the contribution of Ferdinand to her life in this new fantasy world since it seems like that the first season is just a flashback of her earlier years in this new world.

Anyway, let’s all mark our calendar on April 4, 2020, and be ready for the Ascendance of a Bookworm season 2 and we will see how Main will continue her journey. Please let me know what makes you excited to see in the new season, and what are your thoughts about this anime series so far?

Winter 2020 Anime Lineup – My Midseason Review: The Best Shows So Far...

Posted by : zahid

Winter 2020 Anime Lineup – My Midseason Review

Hey guys, the winter 2020 anime lineup had been quite an exciting and a peculiar season for me as I think it’s docile and at the same time a bloodbath. There is plenty of interesting anime this season but only a few stood out or to be honest, had been unique. However, these few anime titles of winter 2020 were really good. One thing that I noticed is that the dynamics of excitement, for example, this week, a certain show is doing well, then next week it’s off the chart and a new one is entering the upper echelon of my anime ranking the next week. I’ll say this is a competitive opening for 2020 but I felt like I’m still craving for more. As a matter of fact, the season started quite weak with the leftover anime from last year dominating it until the real 2020 anime shows eventually take over the top spot.

In this post, I will share my thoughts about the winter 2020 anime series and what are my early perceptions about them. I have also listed them in order based on my week anime chart that I’ve been posting on the Facebook page of Yu Alexius Anime Portal.

Mid-season Review: Top Leftover Anime of Winter 2020 Lineup

I would like to start this discussion with the best leftover anime from 2019; just to be fair with the new anime that aired last January because the progress of the leftover anime shows was far superior.

My Hero Academia Season 4

My Hero Academia Season 4

Taking the top spot is our 17th place from our 2019’s year-end anime ranking which is My Hero Academia which finally bares its fang just right 2020 started. Yes, that epic infiltration to Shii Hassaikai hideout and Deku’s new power-up as well as his epic fight against Overhaul had made the internet raved. However, the story and excitement eventually subside after that as the anime enters to the next arc and building up the tension once again. With a small-margin, My Hero Academia season 4 took the top spot in this list from our 2ndplacer.

Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front – Babylonia

Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front – Babylonia

Taking the 2nd place is an entry from Fate series and I think I have to give the credit to Ana/Gorgon, Merlin, King Gilgamesh, Quetzalcoatl, Enkidu/Kingu, Erishkigal, and Siduri – while I am seriously not impressed yet with Fujimaru. Nonetheless, the anime seems like returning to its path in the upper echelon of our list after it gradually declines from the ranking of the fall 2019 anime seasonal lineup. As of writing this mid-season review of winter 2020 anime lineup, several astonishing events happening in the anime and it seems it will only go higher until the season is over. That’s a momentum that I’ve been craving to see so bad though since its first premiere last October 2019.

Ahiru no Sora

Ahiru no Sora

What a great show we have here. Time and time, Ahiru no Sora simply proves that it’s no mere copy cat of the classic sports anime Slam Dunk. There are some flaws with the anime story at some point, but the animation quality is solid, the humor is quite annoying at some point, but it just keeps getting better. I felt like Ahiru no Sora could develop into something huge and it’s always amazing how inspiring it could be no matter how extraordinarily normal its episodes lately.

Chihayafuru 3

Chihayafuru 3

Beautiful animation and good music – Chihayafuru 3 truly thrives in that aspect. While I am not fully captivated by the story yet, it always feels good to see Chihaya discovering different emotions and the same time keeping an eye on her goal to be the Karuta Queen. Furthermore, it is always amazing to see the backstory of other characters aside from the main characters and how important the role karuta plays in their life. Overall, Chihayafuru 3 exudes an immensely beautiful inspiring atmosphere.

Welcome to Demon School: Iruma-kun!!

Welcome to Demon School: Iruma-kun!!

With interesting humor, beautiful animation, and demonic drama, Iruma-kun’s grip in our heart just keeps stronger. While I am still craving for more, I felt like Welcome to Demon School: Iruma-kun!! had shown us enough dramatic stories of family, friendship, and companionship which could melt our hearts to a certain degree.

Blade of the Immortal

Blade of the Immortal

Bloody as usual but this time the storytelling had improved and I felt like turning into a fanatic of Ittor-yu at some point. Now, the story had focused on a single group of opponent that must be defeated despite so many conflicting and confusing things had happened. I think the biggest downturn for me about Blade of the Immortal this 2020 was when Manji was held captive and experimented for his immortality. Those scenes had almost made me lose my mind; I mean seriously that’s sick.

As much as I love Babylon, and I hate Ai Magase, the anime’s finale is such a big disappointment or maybe I’m just really craving Zen to eliminate the new face of evil which is Ai Magase. Furthermore, the fact that Zen and the President of the US had been put in a checkmate position by Magase is just purely insanely frustrating.

Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods

Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods

The train wreck from 2019 that is Seven Deadly Sins keeps falling behind as the animation quality had ruined the entire franchise. No matter how great the first and the second season, it will go down in history that Meliodas and the Seven Deadly Sins succumbed not to the forces of evil but a cheap animation works. Nonetheless, I still appreciate the effort by the production team despite how low-budget the series is. It’s still frustrating though since The Seven Deadly Sins had been one of the most beloved shounen anime in recent years.

Mid-season Review: Top New Anime of Winter 2020 Lineup

The leftover was done; now let’s proceed to the new anime airing this winter 2020 season which includes both sequels, new, original and adapted anime series. Let’s start with our 1st placer on which everyone may have bet their thoughts on it.

Haikyuu!! Season 4: To The Top

Haikyuu!! Season 4: To The Top

Sitting at our top spot is one of the best sports anime of recent years and that is Haikyuu!! season 4. With great animation, deep screenplay, interesting dialogues, effective humor, and inspiring story – the 4th season of Haikyuu!! had made its way to the top – literally. I love Hinata this season, and how he exudes so much positivity despite facing difficulties. I think he could be anyone's inspiration.

Smile Down the Runway

Smile Down the Runway

A fashion/modeling shounen anime and that is what Smile Down the Runway is all about. This one truly blown me as I am not expecting too much from it but Smile Down the Runway is such an inspiring anime. The clothes and designs were beautiful, we have a stunningly gorgeous young lady too as our protagonist and a timid yet determined young boy who will give his best and passionate towards his dreams to become a designer. I can’t wait to see more from these two young dreamers who inspired me despite how difficult their situations are. I hope they can inspire other people out there too.

Somali & the Forest Spirit

Somali & the Forest Spirit

Beautiful and avatar-like. Somali & the Forest Spirit is the anime of the season that will bring you to a whole new world where everything looks magical and phantasmagorical. While there are other anime like Somali and the Forest Spirit, I could somehow think that its world-setting is unique and wonderful which reminds me of Avatar, or Children of the Whales, or Made in Abyss. It is also amazing how every episode gave us a glimpse of Somali and Golem’s story and feelings while also getting the chance to learn the backstory of anyone they encounter along their journey.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun

Sitting at the 4th place is the exciting story of the apparitions and the students that get entangled with them – to be specific it’s the fun and unique story of Nene and Hanako-kun. I have been anxiously waiting for this and excited when the anime started, although I felt a little bit disappointed with the first episode, it eventually went well with the succeeding ones. It was filled with humor that gave me a breath of fresh air, as the humor is both hilarious and dark with intense and appealing drama that hit through the heart. This reminds me of my favorite anime Natsume Yuujinchou but it’s a little bit dark when it comes to story and ambiance.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

Funny, unique and well-animated – these have been the signature of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken and our three adorable main characters from the story. An anime about making anime, isn’t this twist and plot exciting? Animation wise, I find this anime to be visually stunning and fantastic. I can’t wait to see how many great scenes are coming next.

In the 6th spot of our initial list of best anime of winter 2020 season is In/Spectre – a delightful mystery supernatural drama that delivers us a good laugh and interesting investigative hypotheses. In/Spectre anime adaptation is both light and dark at the same time. The comedic aspect gives that light atmosphere and beautifully mixed up with the dark-theme story of supernatural-related cases such as murder, and more.

A Certain Scientific Railgun T

A Certain Scientific Railgun T

Mikoto Misaka truly gives us a great time this season, and not just her but the other girls too including my new favorite Kongo-san, and her two girlfriends – the hydro-powered lass, and the cute buoyancy esper. However, Railgun herself is still the main player in the story and I just can’t wait for her to serve justice towards the faces of a new evil that appeared in the story this season and to be honest, I am sincerely annoyed and disgusted with the villains in the story this time.

The first thing that got me caught with this anime is the psychological cliché it has and the TK from Shigure Ling performing the opening theme which sounds badass. The first two episodes of Pet had almost driven me like crazy and gave me goosebumps but it stops there and slowly fell off my ranking. However, I am not losing interest yet as I think I still could find something new and interesting in it. Animation wise, I love it, visuals and character designs were kind of cool. I think I just wish the storytelling could be better soon because I felt like it’s been rushed at some point.

Darwin’s Game

Darwin’s Game

I am seriously frustrated and disappointed with the first episode until Darwin’s Game became my new favorite after the 2nd episode. The main character Kaname is nothing spectacular and just like any generic anime protagonist. Yet, I love his spirit and his character here. Then, there’s Shuka who truly made the anime interesting and fun. So far, I am enjoying Darwin’s Game and the survival battle royale cliché in it. The plot is generic and I felt like I have seen this in the other movies or shows before but I think what truly captivated me here are the storytelling and the interesting characters.

The Case Files of Jeweler Richard

The Case Files of Jeweler Richard

At the 9th spot is The Case Files of Jeweler Richard which captures my heart with how beautiful Richard is, and how cute the ambiance is when he and Seigi are together. This one is just full of cuteness overload and the relaxing story of people’s lives. Unlike the other investigative and mystery anime just like In/Spectre, The Case Files of Lord El Melloi, Hyouka, or the Dusk Maiden of Amnesia; The Case Files of Jeweler Richard is filled with tranquillity and mild drama which was written effectively in beautiful dialogue that gives so much calmness in the heart of its viewers and I am one of those who are captivated by it.

Re: Zero The Director’s Cut

Re: Zero The Director’s Cut

I am wondering at first if I will include this in the list since it’s just a recap of the Re: Zero’s 1st season. However, after watching few episodes of it, I have to say that despite being a director’s cut – this recap in an amazing show and a great introduction to people who weren’t able to watch the first season as well as a refresher before the official premiere of Re: Zero season 2 on April. As I didn’t follow the first season that closely, I am amazed at this version of the anime and cannot find any major flaws from it.

ID: Invaded

ID: Invaded

Delving into the consciousness of a criminal and discovering how their minds work to solve criminal cases is quite a unique plot that I did enjoy in ID: Invaded. However, there’s more to it than just being an investigative-problem solving anime story. Behind the action and amusement, is the story and insane logic of people’s committing a criminal offense. Although I felt like the anime is lacking the vibrance and emotion but I think it’s because the production team wants to deliver it from an unemotional perspective.

Sitting at the 13th spot is an anime that gradually became my new favorite and it is Dorohedoro. I seriously love how gory it is and the actions were truly good. Story-wise, it didn’t catch me yet but I am already falling in love with its art style and characters. Shin and Noi caught my attention and l am loving their pair so much. I also love Fujita and Ebisu which I think they made a pretty good pair and gives us so many comic relief in its dark story.

A Destructive God Sits Next To Me

A Destructive God Sits Next To Me

Our god of destruction Miguel simply reminds me of my funny and delusional self from my teenage years and this story is a hilarious ride everyone can enjoy any time of the day. Though I find almost everyone in the story quite annoying but I think that’s the radiance and energy of being youth and it reminds us to release our spirit-animal sometimes.

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.

Maple and her gang are just a pure ball of sunshine in the winter 2020 anime lineup. We have quite the dense yet super exciting main protagonist in this story of an online gamer who goes full defense build in her character. Thus, showing us that the best offense is a strong defense– that’s Maple for you. She together with her friends will take the online world by surprise with their weird and extremely unique style of playing. Just pure good vibes coming out from this fun slice of life online game anime.

That ends my mid-season review of the winter 2020 anime lineup. While I wasn’t able to mention some shows because some had been surprisingly disappointing such as Plunderer but I am still hoping for a good show coming from it in the new few weeks.

What about you guys? Which anime series airing this season did you enjoy the most, and which one did you dropped from your watchlist? Please let us know by leaving your comment below.

kuroshirome 黒白目

Posted by : zahid
In Japanese, kuro-shirome 黒白目 means "black sclera"—the sclera being the (normally) white part of the eye.

Anime characters with black sclerae are often somehow inhuman. They may demons, cyborgs, androids, or other sort of robot, or have possibly demonic powers which, when activated, change the color of sclerae to black from white, maybe to imply the character has been corrupted.

Genos ジェノス, example of black sclera, kuro-shirome 黒白目.

osoroshii ko 恐ろしい子

Posted by : zahid
In Japanese, osoroshii ko 恐ろしい子 means "what a terrifying child," or "what a terrifying girl," "what a terrifying guy," "what a terrifying person," and so on.

In manga and anime, osoroshii ko refers to a pose of shock, with eyes drawn completely white, and usually with one's index finger placed across the chin, sometimes drawn in monotone like manga, accompanied by background effects like thunder or flash lines, used when a character has realized the terrifying capability of somebody.

It originates in the drama shoujo manga, Glass Mask, Garasu no Kamen ガラスの仮面. Today, it's pretty much always used in comedy, often sarcastically. It's become a meme.

nonojinome 「の」の字の目

Posted by : zahid
In Japanese, nonojinome のの字の目 is a way to describe someone looking to the side, with their iris at the corner of the eye, perhaps averting their eyes from something or someone.

Literally, we're talking about "no" no ji no me 「の」の字の目, meaning "no の character eyes," because when someone looks to the side their eyes look like the nohiragana character.

Planting Manual Anime – What You Need to Know About this 2020 Chinese Anime?

Posted by : zahid
"So many demon spirits, I want to collect them." Long Ao Tian. Yuan Ding goes on a journey of collecting demon spirits.
Planting Manual Anime

2020 is a promising year for Chinese animation with tons of big upcoming titles this year, and one that I personally like the most is Planting Manual which is based on the popular Chinese manhua – Demon Spirit Seed Manual – an interesting Chinese isekai story. The donghua (Chinese anime) officially premiered last January 17, 2020 and was listed for 14 episodes with an average length of 21 minutes per episode.

In case you have stumbled upon this anime on YouTube or somewhere else, I am pretty sure that you might want to know more about it too. On my end, I have the tendency to read some stuff first about an ongoing anime ignoring the risk of being spoiled. Nonetheless, I would like to discuss my thoughts about it and what we should learn about Planting Manual.

Planting Manual Overview

The anime is based on the 2015 manhua titled Demon Spirit Seed Manual or also known as Fairy Seed Manual by author Dazui.

Demon Spirit Seed Manual

Synopsis: Yuan Ding, an otaku, was transported to another world. After taking Shuo Yue Academy's entrance exam, Yuan Ding's life in another world begins, aiming to collect the Demon Spirits said to exist in the legends.

Planting Manual anime is also known by its Chinese title Yao Jing Zhong Zhi Shou Ce (妖精种植手册). It is part of the Tencent Video 2020 lineup of Chinese animation and is animated by Big Firebird Culture Media.
Planting Manual Anime

Planting Manual is listed under the category of action, adventure, comedy, ecchi, fantasy, harem, romance, and seinen. However, based on the 4-episodes that I have seen so far, the majority of anime adaptation is fell on action, comedy, ecchi aspect and it seems that it might be a good Chinese romance anime too just like Psychic Princess.

Planting Manual Anime 2020 Trailer

First Impression

I have to share the thoughts of several fans who had read the manhua, the story is actually very generic as an isekai where the main character was dropped on a fantasy world but that stops there. I am seriously not a big fan of our main guy Yuan Ding whom I find quite delusional and thinks that the new fantasy world he had should revolve around him. But still, it is too early to jump to conclusions. I don’t see anything special with any other characters so far aside from our main demoness who seems to have a tragic past as a human before she became a fairy/demon later on.

Planting Manual - the main heroine in the anime
While the story is quite far from catching my whole attention yet, I still have plenty of hopes for this. The animation is actually average and I am fine with it. My eyes were still quite used with Japanese animation, so I always felt like frames in Chinese anime series were quite different. But I think that’s also good so we could easily differentiate them.

The character designs were nothing spectacular. But what really caught my attention about Planting Manual is the plot about the special power of our main character. Imagine raising demons or fairies from spirit seeds and eventually have your own harem? That is quite unique for me, and I really want to how many spirit seeds Yuan Ding will have in the end.

Planting Manual Anime

The opening theme song of Planting Manual – Elegy of Fairies still the most desirable thing to listen from it since the Chinese dubbed in the donghua were quite terrible at my reception. I mean, there are some Chinese anime where the audio and dialogue were nicely done but in Planting Manual, I felt like the voice actors were all rushing and it’s quite rough on my hearing. Nonetheless, the opening theme Elegy of Fairies truly did gave me eargasm experience as if I was entering the fantasy world of The Lord of the Ring. While the ending theme song is catchy and fun to watch, provoking me to do some weird dance steps.

Planting Manual Opening Theme

Alright, I will end my first impression discussion about Planting Manual here and hoping that I’ll see some more interesting and exciting stuff in the succeeding episodes. Despite my initial experience, I still have Planting Manual as one of my early favorites among the 2020 Chinese anime lineup. Together with The Daily Life of the Immortal King, and The Furious Yama, Planting Manual had truly made the first quarter of the year a consistently amazing invasion of Chinese animation on my end.

Have you guys watched it already? Please let me know by leaving your comments below.
