Sunshine Blogger Award: It’s My First Time in the Club!

Posted by : zahid

My anime sunshine: Maple from Bofuri
Maple is my dear furball of anime sunshine | Sauce: BOFURI

Hey guys, it’s my first time to write a post about the Sunshine Blogger Awardthough I’d saw this several times before from the sites of other anime bloggers. I have to give a special shoutout to The Pantless Anime Blogger who nominated me a year ago on my personal blog but I failed to make a post, I’m so sorry buddy. Nonetheless, I will answer your questions in this post together with questions for a new nomination I got from Moyatori of The Moyatorium.

First of all, I would like to say thank you to The Pantless Anime Blogger and Moyatori for nominating me and to all these wonderful questions. Before I’ll start, I have to post the rules & regulations of Sunshine Blogger Award first.

Sunshine Blogger Award

Here are the rules:
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Moyatori’s Questions

Alright, I would like to start this with questions from Moyatori which are really interesting. You may also check Moyatori's Blog here: The Moyatorium

1. In a situation where you must initiate small talk, what’s your go-to topic?

I am not really the one who always initiates the conversation unless it is really important. I choose the topic depending on what kind of person I’m dealing with. If it is with people who really knows me personally, I always go with topic involving anime, work-related stuffs, popular news or politics (but I don’t really go deeper into this one) or boys (I’m gay by the way); or a simple question – would you like to have coffee? / Let’s have a cup of coffee?

2. If there are 25 hours in a day, what would you do with the extra hour?

I am nocturnal but if there will be an extra hour of the day; I’ll use it for another extra time of sleep. Phonsekal Laure from Tower of God must be my lazy spirit animal at some point.
Tower of God "Phonsekal Laure"

3. Would you prefer to commute to work/school by flying carpet, pumpkin carriage, or ventilated glass coffin carried by coffin dancers?

I love to ride a pumpkin carriage but since I want to reach my destination as fast as possible without any annoying traffic or whatsoever, I’ll choose a flying carpet. Afterall, nothing could beat the mood of riding it while singing A Whole New World. J

4. How many hours of sleep do you need each night to feel rested?

I usually fell asleep late and if there’s work, I have to get up early so 3-4 hours of sleep is okay with me. If I know that the next day is vacant, I could sleep up to 7-8 hours, or wake up after that, then sleep once again after 2-3 hours.

5. What’s the best food to eat when stressed?

It’s always coffee on my end because coffee is life and love. Although, I’m not picky with what I eat, I’d prefer to have cookies or biscuits together with a cup of coffee or more when I am stressed. Sometimes, I felt like I could even eat a human being if they annoyed me when I am tremendously stressed.

6. If you must immigrate to another country, where would you go?

It’s always Iceland, I don’t know but there’s something special in its beauty that really captured my heart. Aside from Iceland, I also love the other Nordic countries such as Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. After that, then there’s Japan and United Kingdom where I think I could settle peacefully.

7. What kind of songs do you listen to at the end of a frustrating day?

I have wide range of taste in music from classical, to pop, anime-theme, orchestra-instrumental, rock, metal, Gregorian chants, and folksong. But I would rather have anime songs to listen at the end of a frustrating day.

8. What’s the best dish you’ve made recently? Mind sharing your recipe with me?

I’m sorry but I don’t know how to cook other than rice & fried egg. xD

9. My mom wants to learn more English by watching TV shows. She enjoyed Grey’s Anatomy and The Handmaid’s Tale, and likes “deep” stories with diverse casts. What TV show would you recommend my mom?

I think I could recommend How I Met Your Mother, or The Big Bang Theory. Oh, as well as Doctor Who! J

10. What’s your favorite fairy tale, and why?

Cinderella had always been on top of my favorite fairy tales. Maybe it’s because it’s more realistic at some point minus the fairy godmother and the pumpkin carriage whatsoever. I could somehow relate to Cinderella’s story at some point.

11. On a scale of cotton candy to razor blade dripping with your enemy’s blood, are you more wholesome or edgy?

I am wholesome or that’s what everyone had been thinking of me. I have always been living with the motto: Respect yourself to gain the respect of others, so I couldn’t really go at the wild side in front of the others. But I am a raging lunatic and pretty edgy I think who likes reading about stories of serial killers, and a bit crazy every once in a while.

The Pantless Anime Blogger’s Questions

This is really late but here’s my answer to The Pantless Anime Blogger’s questions on my personal blog: xernest.wordpress.com J

1. In a Jump All Star rumble, who would you pick to win? Saitama from OPM, Korosensei from Assassination Classroom, Dio from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure or Kankichi from Kochikame.

I’m a fan of Saitama so I’ll go with our bald hero. J

2.  After a stressful day, you would go to ____________ to _____________ so you can unwind. I probably could’ve phrased this better?

I’ll definitely go to my room or any silent place where I could watch anime, read novels while drinking a cup of coffee. In my workplace, there’s a certain spot there where I always go just to unwind, simply sitting at the bench while looking at the lagoon while enjoying the cool breeze of the wind plus, it could be a perfect senti moments.

3. Tea or Coffee?

Obviously, it’s coffee but I knew someone who’s head over heels on tea, so I might have one if he says so.

4. A random due in a cat mascot costume suddenly rushes towards you on your way to school. What do you do?

I’ll say meow! I don’t really like conversation that doesn’t interest me so I might as well as ignore him/her as long as they doesn't pose any danger.

5. Truck-san just helped you travel to another world. Which world? The Harry Potter world of Zero no Tsukaima or the WWII-esque world of Yojou Senki and yes, you’re reborn as a loli here too.

I’ll choose the latter; after all I must be Tanya herself. I could feel it we have the same heart.

6. Favorite drama?

There’s this Japanese TV series titled Precious Time that aired in Philippines when I was in my college days 10 years ago. It's Japanese title is Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake also known as God, please give me more time – starring Takeshi Kaneshiro and Kyoko Fukada. I really love it and still one of my favorite til now together with the Korean drama Hwang Gini. In anime, it’ll always be Natsume Yuujinchou.
Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake

7. You’re going to battle a pokemon in a one-on-one deathmatch. Which pokemon do you choose as your opponent?

I will admit defeat so I’ll choose Jigglypuff while dying listening to her song.

8. What’s your guilty pleasure movie/anime/series?

This is hard but among few of them are Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, Food Wars, Teen Wolf, 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten, The Way He Looks, Call Me By Your Name.

9. Would you rather drink a blundered juice made of apple, celery, and pork fat or mint, tuna and chives?

I have to choose the 2nd option: Mint, Tuna, and Chives!

10. What’s the main reason you wake up and leave bed in the morning?

This is so hard. I am currently at the stage of my life where I really don’t know what keeps me going on in this course of life. I don’t want to wake up every morning just to go to work, and living just to survive each day is quite cheap and meaningless. We all want to leave some legacy in this world before we are gone, I want to make myself believe that I am here for a higher purpose but I am still searching for it.

And that’s the end of my answers to the questions of Moyatori and TPAB. I hereby nominate these awesome people for Sunshine Blogger Award:

I also have here my questions which could be obnoxious at some point:
  1. If you could choose 5 anime characters to live inside a house for a lifetime, who are they?
  2. Do you like Chinese anime? If yes, which one is your favorite?
  3. How old are you when you realized that anime had become an integral part of your life and in what ways it became important to you?
  4. If one day you’ll have the power to change the world: would you change it with diplomacy or revolution?
  5. Among various anime characters, who you think is your spirit animal?
  6. What’s your dream job and why you choose it?
  7. If you’ll direct your own anime someday, what title will you give it?
  8. When did you start blogging, and what important lessons you learn from it?
  9. Tell me which country you came from by dropping 3 clues/hints only?
  10. Which anime do you think is the most revolutionary?
  11. If you’ll go isekai, which anime world would you like to live and why?

And this is where I shall end this post. Thank you to Moyatori and TPAB for nominating me. For people who had been tagged, no pressure if you can’t answer the questions but I’ll be happy to hear from words from you! JNonetheless, thank you and have a great day guys!

The upcoming donghua had been in the making for the last four years and fans are eagerly waiting for its release which is speculated to be this 2020 after the delayed of its original premiere which supposed to be last September 2019.

Fog Hill of Five Elements is an original Chinese anime from Samsara Animation Studio, in a co-production with Nice Boat Animation. The story of the anime is set in ancient China in an alternate world where humans have supernatural powers – specifically they are called the Five Elements. In regards to this concept, we could simply assumed that Fog Hill of Five Elements could be similar to The Avatar series to a certain degree especially with its plot, and the animation style quite differ but some aspects really looks familiar.

Fog Hill of Five Elements Background

The Five Elements are possessed by a group of five warriors. They are the major characters in Fog Hill of Five Elements. The user of Fire is seemingly shown as the main protagonist of the series based on the available trailers and teasers for the anime.

In the first trailer which was released several years ago, the Fire user and the Water user were shown battling each other. It was shown that they could take on a transformation related to their respective elements and the Fire user comes out as the winner from that battle.

Fog Hill of Five Elements is also known with other titles such as Wushan Wuxing, Fog Hill of the Five Elements, and Five Elements in the Misty Mountain.

Fog Hill of Five Elements Release Date & Production Staff

Fog Hill of Five Elements released date is scheduled on July 26, 2020 as a new trailer for the anime had been unveiled as shown below:

The ONA was originally slated for release on September 2019 but was delayed and scheduled for 2020 release. Now that Fog Hill of Five Elements release is slated on July 26, we should save the date and prepare for an amazing sakuga experience from the 5 elements. According to previously revealed information, Fog Hill of Five Elements will have a total of 8 episodes.

Nice Boat Animation (co-producing Fog Hill of Five Elements) had also released this most anticipated Chinese anime of 2020 – White Cat Legend last April 10. In regards to this, fans could speculate that it’ll only be matter of time until Fog Hill of Five Elements will premiere. Furthermore, the anime had a joint test-screening with White Cat Legend last November 2018: Fog Hill of Five Elements & White Cat Legend aka Dali Temple Log Joint Screening Test. We could expect for some correlation between them which includes its imminent release.

Fog Hill of Five Elements is directed by Hun Lin (who is also the creator of Sui Cheng Li Xin: Gui Yu Zhou Yuan Pian) at Samsara studio. In fact, Hun Lin had made Kuiyu Chouyuan by himself as well as the action designs for Fog Hill of Five Elements.

Due to the small-size of the studio (around 5-10 personnel only), the series had been slow in production but this also serve as a proof that the production team is in no rushed to finish the project, thus ensuring that the quality will be consistent. If we will take a look at the trailers and teasers of Fog Hill of Five Elements, we could see how much attention is given to the details and its quality is absurdly amazing.

Fog Hill of Five Elements Trailers & Teasers

Here we have compiled all the previously released trailers and teasers of Fog Hill of Five Elements. While we could barely get any specific details yet about its story, this is a consistent proof of the upcoming donghua’s animation quality and its world-setting which really looks beautiful and fascinating.

Where to Watch Fog Hill of Five Elements?

Chinese Anime "Fog Hill of Five Elements" (Wu Shan Wu Xing)
 © Samsara Animation Studio
Obviously, this one is what really matters if Fog Hill of Five Elements finally revealed its release date. Most of us definitely have the same questions of where to watch Fog Hill of Five Elementsonce it will be release? On my end, I am expecting that it will be release on bilibili too just like what Nice Boat Animation did with White Cat Legend anime release. Furthermore, we can also hope the Chinese anime subbing groups will include Fog Hill of Five Elements in their archives. To see the full list of these subbing groups, you may visit this website: [donghua.jimdofree.com] where Chinese anime directory is listed and where you can watch or download them online.

Last option but also effective is YouTube, with the sudden rise of Chinese animation’s popularity, many people are now uploading various donghua on YouTube and Fog Hill of the Five Elements is no exception.

Alright, while Fog Hill of Five Elements release date is not confirmed yet, I would like to recommend add the anime on their Chinese anime watchlist for 2020 as well as followed the producer’s Twitter profile @liudaowuyu for updates. You may also subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest updates about Fog Hill of Five Elements as we give you the latest news about it once further announcement had been made. If you’re looking for other Chinese anime airing this 2020, you may check our post on: Top Recommended Chinese Anime of 2020 and the bilibili Chinese anime lineup for 2020.

Please let us know too about your thoughts on Fog Hill of Five Elements, especially that fans had been waiting since 2016 for its release. Furthermore, we are all looking forward on this one after its predecessor Kuiyu Chouyuan (another work of Fog Hill of Five Elementscreator) had been cancelled few years ago.

10 Historical-Action Period-Drama Anime to Add in Your Watchlist

Posted by : zahid

Setting on fantastic adventure back in time is a fun and amazing things to experience when watching an anime. Thus, period-drama anime with great actions and similarity to historical events are always an interesting catch to watch among the various genres of anime.

Historical-Action Anime List Recommendation

On my end, historical anime series are among my earliest influences as an anime fan and I’ve been always fascinated by how astounding the fight scenes were. It always sparks that tiny imagination inside my head from those good old days to travel back in time in a fantasy-like dreamy pace. There are plenty of other genres that lies within or partially in a historical anime and that includes action, fantasy, and drama to name a few. Among my favorites were fantasy-adventure historical anime, while period-drama with heavy emotional impact had been a notorious ride for me as it usually left me questioning my sanity just like what psychological anime did most of the time.

Now, I would like to share some of the best historical anime that I have seen. These series were set in different places and in various timelines, while majority of period-drama anime were set in feudal era of Japan, or the Middle Age in Europe, or in a separate parallel fantasy world with the same structure as other historical anime plots.

Inuyasha

Inuyasha

On top of my list of historical anime recommendation is Inuyasha which is one of my favorite anime of all-time. Set in Japan around 14th or 15thcentury, Inuyasha is a fantastic and exciting anime filled drama, actions and endless humor. It follows the journey of a young girl from the modern era that traveled back in time and meets a half-yokai half-human Inuyasha – who is our titular main character of the anime. Together they fought several battles to eradicate evil yokai as well as bad people. Joining in their journey is a pervert monk, a demon hunter with dark past, and tiny fox yokai who always give a heavy dosage of comedy in the show. If you want to know more about its characters and story, I would like to recommend you to check our post: Who are the strongest characters from Inuyasha.

The Heroic Legend of Arslan

The Heroic Legend of Arslan "Daryuun"

Arslan Senki – So Persian to a certain degree. The Heroic Legend of Arslandoesn’t necessarily take place in Ancient Persia but it’s the closest civilization that I could give to this one hell of an amazing anime. It’s a story of a young prince who’s struggling to live up to his father’s fierce reputation, discovering his lineage, and set in a journey to gather allies and prove his worth to the throne, and to eventually take back his kingdom that had been usurped from his family. The Heroic Legend of Arslan was among those few anime that truly captivated me due to how amazing its character development and narration was. Furthermore, the fight scenes in this anime were among the best in historical period-drama genre.

Vinland Saga

Vinland Saga "Thorfinn"

This anime had finished 3rd at our list of best anime of 2019 and I am definitely enthralled by how well the story is written supporting by astounding animation and graphics. I actually felt bad how underrated Vinland Saga is because I strongly believed that this anime is a masterpiece that viewers out there in our community must see. This anime had one of the most solid animation and stunning visual background that I have ever seen; I think such quality is expected from its animation studio which is WIT whom also brought the epic Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and The Ancient Magus’ Bride to life. The story of Vinland Saga is an intense dramatic ride and search for revenge, a story of conquest and the journey to find the promise land. I must say this is one of the best adventure anime of 2019with amazing character development and backstory.

Kingdom

"Kingdom" anime

An anime set in the warring states era of Ancient China; Kingdom had been one of the best action anime when it comes to large-scale military battles. However, the cream of the crop in its story is about the strategic battle, it’s a war of tactics where every general have to come up with effective strategy to win the war. I must say, Kingdom had been successful in giving us amazing fights and tactical warfare. What’s even more amazing is the fact that despite of presenting different strategies, the story of Kingdom had never overwhelmed the viewers, thus we could easily understand what really transpired in the battlefield without thinking too much. It is an emotional roller-coaster that gave us a glimpse of how brutal the wartime period is, and how many lives had been sacrificed throughout the course of history. In fact, Kingdom had reminded me of my two favorite Chinese anime of all time which are The Legend of Qin, and its spin-off series Nine Songs of the Moving Heavens. As of writing, Kingdom Season 3 is airing as part of the spring 2020 anime seasonal lineup.

Yona of the Dawn

Akatsuki no Yona anime

Akatsuki no Yona – I couldn’t talk about Arslan Senki without mentioning Akatsuki no Yona because they have quite the similar plot – both having main characters who are supposed to be a successor of a kingdom but was thrown away due to power struggle and their kingdom had been usurped by another character who seems to be strong and capable of leading it. However, Yona of the Dawn is having more of a romantic story paired with awesome action. We have our dethroned princess here whose name is Yona and she must gather her forces in order to take revenge on the man who killed her father and conquered her kingdom; and the twist is that the man who did is the one whom she really admired the most. That is quite a generic story but how it captivated the heart of the viewers makes it a remarkable anime in its respective genre. I have also listed the protagonist of this anime as a strong female lead in our post: The Beautiful and Strong Red-Haired Anime Girls.

Altair: A Record of Battles

"Altair: A Record of Battles" anime

I was quite skeptical on this one first because I felt like the story lacks the charisma of a historical action anime and it seems docile. That is my thought until blood had been shed and it finally sinks into my system that Altair: A Record of Battles is not just an action anime but a political one where different kingdom and city-states have to fight for their sovereignty against a growing and insatiable empire.  I have enjoyed the battle of tactics in this anime and how interesting the characters are. The main protagonist had also shown great character development throughout its stint and how promising the battles are. It’s world-setting is even more intriguing and I have this habit of countering it with some superpower empires and kingdoms from the history of the real world and how amazing the similarities are. For further reading, I have here a short introduction to the 2nd cour of the anime in our post: The Prelude to the Great Rumeliana War from Altair: A Record of Battles.

Laughing Under the Clouds

Laughing Under the Clouds

Donten ni Warau – This one is among my personal favourites and it is such a shame that this anime is so underrated. Set in the Meiji Era in Japan, Laughing Under the Clouds is a heartfelt and fun story of family, friendship, and self-discovery while battling an unknown opponent which strikes fear in the heart of the people. The fights are amazing, the characters are fun to be with, and they are interesting which will make you wish to know them more. There was never a dull moment, and with plenty of plot twist, Laughing Under the Clouds had been one of the my biggest anime surprises which both made me happy and broke my heart. Plus, we have one of the best big brother in this anime, he surely is someone we want to have around in our family. In case you had finished the anime series and you’re still want more, I advised you to check its film trilogy – which served as the prologue and epilogue to the anime series. It gave us a background on the Yamainu, and the Fumas in a retrospective way.

Le Chevalier D’Eon

Le Chevalier D’Eon anime

I really have a special attachment towards this supernatural-historical anime set in France during the period of Louis XV. The story is quite generic at first until it bares its fang and interesting political intrigue which sometimes I really felt a bit creepy. This is an exciting story of various political plot and discovery throughout the process of finding the truth. Le Chevalier D’Eon had given us an exemplary performance, telling us that the world is a big stage and so we must perform our best performance in it. The story is interesting; there are sword fights, magic, and more. It’s very Western, stylish yet enigmatic in so many ways – plus I really enjoyed the supernatural flair in it.

Dororo

"Dororo" anime

Bloody anime with great fight scenes and obviously, an interesting supernatural plot; the constant feel of mystery in the air had even made the whole experience of watching Dororo an exciting one. The anime is one of our best anime of 2019. The plot is actually generic but what makes it special is the fact that the story is written very well, and on emotional level it could touch the viewer’s heart in a tremendous way. The fight scenes are excellent with every twist and turn of the story, you can expect for an amazing sword-fighting to takes place. What really lie behind the supernatural plot of this anime is the underlying messages about various philosophies and humanity behaviour as a whole. It will ask you various questions on which you have to put yourself in the shoes of the characters and decide what could’ve been done better?

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo

Here we have one of the best historical-action plus comedy anime of all time and it is Samurai Champloo which combined the Edo-period history and the contemporary hip-hop culture. Samurai Champloo aired in 2005 and was a trendsetter of its time as an anime that combined historical approach in line with futurism. Furthermore, the animation quality was well-done with various styles that could be seen in every episode, thus making the experience unique on its own.

Meanwhile, I also have here listed some of other historical anime series that you may want to check out for further options on your end as follows:
  • The Twelve Kingdoms
  • Berserk
  • Rurouni Kenshin
  • Drifters
  • Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (this one is a personal favorite of mine)
  • Demon Slayer (definitely 2019’s most popularanime series)
  • Gintama
  • Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scroll
  • Hakuoki

This is where I shall end our historical action anime recommendations. Should you have any other titles would you like to be included in our list? I’ll be more than happy to learn more about it and your thoughts about our list too. Please let us know by leaving your comment below as well as if there are other topics that you would like to request.
