Four Ears

Posted by : zahid
In manga and anime, sometimes characters have "four ears," yotsu-mimi 四つ耳, in the sense of having "two pairs" of ears, ni-tsui 二対, that are part of their body.

Generally, this happens when the artist adds a pair of cat ears, bunny ears, etc. on top of a human character's head that already has human ears or human-like ears.

Opera オペラ, example of cat ears, pointed ears.
Character: Opera オペラ
Anime: Mairimashita! Iruma-kun 魔入りました!入間くん (Episode 10)

Characters with four visible ears are few, as the lower ears are typically hidden behind hair.

usamimi うさみみ

Posted by : zahid
In Japanese, usamimi うさみみ means "bunny ears" or "rabbit ears." It's a portmanteau combining the words usagi 兎, "bunny," "rabbit," and mimi 耳, "ears." In other words: it's an abbreviation of usagi-mimi 兎耳.

Like "cat ears," nekomimi 猫耳, usamimi is a specific type of kemomimi ケモミミ, and normally refers to headbands featuring bunny ears, or characters featuring bunny ears, rather than the actual ears of a bunny.

Nakano Azusa 中野梓, example of bunny ears, usamimi うさみみ.
Character: Nakano Azusa 中野梓
Anime: K-On!, Keion! けいおん! (Episode 9)

Bunny Girl

Posted by : zahid
In Japanese, "bunny girl," katakanized banii gaaru バニーガール, refers to a girl wearing a "bunny suit," which is a well-known and very specific sort of sexy outfit featuring bunny ears.

Often, the Japanese term "bunny girl" refers to the act of cosplaying as a bunny girl, rather than referring to the girl herself.

The words banii-san バニーさん and usagi-san ウサギさん, both literally "bunny-san," are sometimes used to refer to the girl.

Sakurajima Mai 桜島麻衣, example of "bunny girl," banii gaaru バニーガール.
Character: Sakurajima Mai 桜島麻衣
Anime: Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai, 青春ブタ野郎はバニーガール先輩の夢を見ない (Episode 1)

Know Your Gaos

Posted by : zahid
In the English anime fandom, "know your gao's" or "know the faces" is a an NSFW meme template listing Japanese terms for four types of fetishized facial expressions: ahegao, gesugao, torogao and kusogao, plus an extra deemed the most important gao.

Unfortunately, the way the Japanese terms are labelled, or translated, in the often reposted meme is vague, inaccurate, and incorrect, so I made my own version of it, with literal translations and flowers, and I'm going to explain what the words are actually supposed to mean in Japanese.

A list of common anime faces.

Top Recommended Chinese Anime to Add to Your Watchlist [2020 Edition]

Posted by : zahid

In this trying times that Covid-19 had struck and the whole world is at the edge fighting this pandemic and the most that we can do is to stay at home, for anime viewers like me; watching anime and related shows had been my refuge. If you had been an avid reader of my blog, you might have come here looking for Chinese anime recommendations since I’ve been talking non-stop about Chinese animations or donghua since 2017 when The King’s Avatar had captivated me. As a means of helping my fellow anime fans of having additional anime titles to be added in their watchlist, I’ve come up with a short recommendation of Chinese anime series & movies that everyone may enjoy.

Chinese Anime Recommendation List

I have divided this recommended list of Chinese anime in two (2) parts. The first is for the Chinese anime series, and the second is for the Chinese anime movies. I have included almost all the donghua that I have seen so far in this recommendation since I do believe in the statement “the more, the merrier”. However, I have only provided a short description of each Chinese anime in order not to spoil too much about its story. If you wish to read some detailed overview of some of them, you may check my post about the following:

I have provided a bit of a detailed overview of several Chinese anime that I have listed in those posts. And now, I would like to begin this list with my recommended Chinese anime series that viewers out there may enjoy.

The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation / Mo Dao Zu Shi Anime

Mo Dao Zu Shi – This may sound basic since the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation or The Founder of Diabolism is one of the most popular Chinese anime in recent years. This donghua had been listed as our best Chinese anime of 2018, and definitely among the best anime that I have ever seen on that year. If you love Chinese elements such as martial arts and its supernatural beliefs paired with a great screenplay and interesting characters, the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is a must-watch for you.

The King’s Avatar

The King's Avatar / Quan Zhi Gao Shou Anime

Quan Zhi Gao Shou – I have here my favorite Chinese anime of all time, and it is the reason why I fell in love with Chinese animations. If you love anime such as Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, BOFURI, and similar online games anime series, you should add The King’s Avatar to your watchlist. This is the most popular e-sports anime out there. Aside from the anime series, The King’s Avatar was also adapted into a manhua, and live-action series starring Yang Yang. You may read our review of the live-drama here: The King’s Avatar Live-Action Drama Series Review. The King’s Avatar also received a prequel anime movie that was released last year titled The King’s Avatar: For the Glory.

Soul Land

Soul Land / Douluo Dalu Anime

Douluo Dalu – We have here the most popular Chinese anime in the whole world as of writing. Soul Land is among the few Chinese animations that became popular in the west while also holding the title of the most-watched anime in the Tencent Video platform. One of my personal favorites, Soul Land is a 3DCG anime with isekai (transmigration to another world) elements with plenty of actions and romantic vibes in its story. Soul Land also gets a live-action drama called Douluo Continent in 2020 starring Chinese actor Xiao Zhan.

Psychic Princess

Psychic Princess / Tong Ling Fei Anime

Tong Ling Fei – Oh, dear! Here’s my favorite shoujo anime from China. Psychic Princess is both funny and romantic. There are also a considerable amount of actions in the anime since the Psychic Princess has supernatural elements. It’s about an abandoned princess who was summoned to replace her sister as a wife of a ruthless prince. In the end, the crazy set up had turned to be a hilarious ride with our strong independent funny princess spreading so much positivity and laughter throughout the whole run of the anime.

The Demonic King Chases His Wife

Here’s another Chinese shoujo anime and a contemporary of Psychic Princess. There are tons of similarities between this one and the Psychic Princess but some cliché had been added in its story which includes an isekai element. Yes, the main heroine is a world-class assassin from the modern world who got transmigrated into an unknown cultivation world where she possessed the body of a damsel in distress princess.

Spiritpact

For anime viewers who are fujoshi and love shounen-ai story, Spiritpact is a must-watch for you. Exciting and hilarious story with the typical Chinese supernatural elements, Spiritpact is a fun anime to follow especially if you love topics about exorcism and the corresponding humor that comes with it. Among the strongest points of Spiritpact is its amazing soundtrack that people will surely love.

Everlasting Immortal Firmament

The funniest Chinese anime series that I’ve seen so far and I’m sorry since this show is not for everyone. If you can handle absurdly hilarious jokes and below the belt parody, then Everlasting Immortal Firmament is a great donghua to be added to your watchlist.

Martial Universe

One of the best action Chinese anime that I have seen so far and one of the works of Heavenly Silkworm Potato that received a donghua adaptation – Martial Universe is in the boundary of xianxia and fantasy world-setting. It has one of the best 3DCG fight scenes of any Chinese anime nowadays with a notorious overwhelming lucky genius as its protagonist. You may check my review about it for more details: Martial Universe Anime Series Review.

Battle Through the Heavens

If you love Martial Universe, here’s Battle Through the Heavens; another work of Heavenly Silkworm Potato and a special donghua to me since the novel where it was based had been the first Chinese web novel that I have finished reading. We have an amazing protagonist for this anime who had been in so many ups & downs. He is also a handsome loverboy with many female characters in its story becoming a member of his harem.

Rakshasa Street

Rakshasa Street Anime

Action and drama, Rakshasa Street had been among the most astounding Chinese anime in recent years. Its 2ndseason also aired last December as part of bilibili2020 Chinese anime lineup.

Stellar Transformations

Also known as Legend of Immortal, this anime is the most solid xianxia donghua nowadays with great animation quality and fight scenes. The character development is pretty decent and while the biggest turn on with Stellar Transformations is the action in it, anime viewers will also love our main protagonist Qin Yu. As of writing, Stellar Transformations anime season 2is currently airing at Tencent Video.

Adorable Food Goddess

Adorable Food Goddess Anime

A bit of action, a bit of romance, and a little more on foodgasm; the entire experience of Adorable Food Goddess is a real visual aesthetic. The animation quality is beautiful; it reminded me of Makoto Shinkai works, and those anime from Kyoto Animation such as Violet Evergarden. Story-wise, the Adorable Food Goddess is pretty decent.

The Legend of Qin / Qin’s Moon

A real classic I must say, The Legend of Qin had been one of the revolutionary Chinese anime in the 21stcentury, being given as the defining anime of Chinese 3DCG from Sparkly Key Animation Studio. If you want a Chinese anime that runs deeper than the rest, The Legend of Qin is your first choice as it currently has 5 seasons and over hundreds of episodes out there. The story is set in the warring-states of Ancient China and a boy whose destiny is to challenge the power of the Qin Empire. Interesting and unique characters, great fight scenes, and god-tier music – this donghua is seriously on a league of its own.

Qin’s Moon: Nine Songs of the Moving Heavens

This anime is a spin-off series to the main The Legend of Qin series. I have Nine Songs of the Moving Heavens as my 3rd favorite Chinese anime of all time, just behind The King’s Avatar & Mo Dao Zu Shi. The story took place almost 10 years before The Legend of Qin’s timeline took place in the Ancient Kingdom of Han and the growing tension between the other warring states. Some of the characters from The Legend of Qin appeared in Nine Songs of the Moving Heavens. Quicksand (the villain group from The Legend of Qin) is the main protagonist in this prequel series. There are tons of amazing and interesting characters; the fight scenes are absurdly beautiful, while the story is more on political and military intrigue as opposed to the carefree and adventurous vibes of The Legend of Qin.

Fox Spirit Matchmaker

One of the most popular and longest-running Chinese anime in recent years with over a hundred episodes in its belt – Fox Spirit Matchmaker is a delightful combination of drama, romance, and action with various themes and topics all weaved together. This Chinese anime is among the most famous work from the Haoliners Animation League which animated Spiritpact, Flavors of Youth, and Hundred Demon Manual.

Hitori no Shita: The Outcast

Originally a co-production between Chinese and Japanese animation companies, Hitori no Shita is a fun, hilarious and action-packed donghua. The most defining aspect of this anime is its amazing fight scenes. It currently has 3 seasons in its belt with Hitori no Shita anime season 3premiered last April.

The Legend of Luo Xiao Hei

The Legend of Luo Xiao He is an independent and one of the most beloved Chinese short anime web series in recent years. With its popularity among Chinese fans, it received a prequel movie titled The Legend of Hei which was released in China and Japan last 2019. If you love Studio Ghibli works, I am pretty sure that you’ll find this donghua interesting and entertaining.

I’m Joybo

Listed among the personal favorites of all time, I’m Joybo is the mother of all plot twists when I am gradually falling in love with Chinese animation. The whole experience of watching this donghua had been intense and sentimental. The animation quality is quite mediocre but anybody can tolerate it. The background images are beautiful though. I sincerely believe that the most striking feature of I’m Joybo is the fact that it could soften the viewer's heart. It made me feel the pain, the drama, the heartbreak, the losses, etc. Furthermore, the soundtracks are pretty catchy.

Full-Time Magister

Quanzhi Fashi – Oh dear, who wouldn’t fall in love with this one? Full-Time Magister aired almost in the same period as The King’s Avatar and anime fans had it among their earliest Chinese anime when donghua is rapidly gaining attention in recent years. The animation quality is average but, the story is like any shounen anime out there that people will surely bite. I love our main character Mo Fan here and his gang. The story could’ve been better but, amazingly, the anime was able to build that great connection between the characters and the audience which I believe is commendable.

I would also like to recommend the following Chinese anime for your reference as I actually didn’t watch or finish these titles yet. However, some of you may want to check it out so I have listed it as follows:

  • The Westward
  • The Legend and the Hero (this one is seriously good according to donghua fans)
  • Tales of Demons and Gods (I did have this in my watchlist but didn’t start yet)
  • Eudemon Quest
  • My Holy Weapon (not fond of this but it’s quite famous)
  • Snow Eagle Lord
  • The Grand Lord (Chinese anime adaptation of The Great Ruler novel)
  • Chinese Mystery Man
  • Lu’s Time (this one is hilarious, it’s a short parody of online game The League of Legends)
  • Lan Mo’s Flower (I find this one romantic and cute)
  • The Beauty Blogger (isekai story with a twist)
  • My Cultivator Girlfriend
  • Spirit Realm
  • Nuwa’s Diary
  • To Be Hero
  • To Be Heroine
  • Kaifeng Strange Tales: This Lord Bao is Not That Great
  • Please Take My Brother Away
  • How To Steal 55 Kisses
  • The Young Imperial Guards
  • The Uncharted Walker
  • Killer Seven / Scissor Seven
  • There's a Pit in My Senior Martial Brother's Brain
  • The Emperor's Strategy
  • Beryll & Sapphire
  • Bringing the Nation's Husband Home
  • Whited Nighttime
  • The Legend of Condor Hero
  • Music Up
  • Storm Rider: Clash of Evils (Wind and cloud)
  • 100,000 Cold Jokes (this is one of the most hilarious Chinese anime out there)
  • Ace Censorate
  • Cerebrum
  • Black & White Warriors
  • Cupid’s Chocolates

Chinese Anime 2020 Lineup

I also have here the 2020 Chinese Anime Lineup that you guys should also check out:

Chinese Anime Movies

I also have here my list of recommended Chinese anime movies to be added to your watchlist. I listed five (5) of these movies in my previous post: ChineseAnime Movies for Beginners! I’ll keep it short and simple, so let’s start our list with the 2019’s box office record-breaker NeZha.

NeZha: Birth of the Demon Child

Nezha 2019 Anime Movie

This is a heartfelt family story that tackles various issues but in a light manner. The whole experience of watching the 2019’s NeZha film is superb: from its gorgeous animated background images, the beautiful and god-tier fight scenes, the heart-penetrating drama, and amazing soundtrack.

White Snake: The Origin

If you love romance stories with Chinese elements, White Snake is a must-watch for you. It’s the 2019 anime movie adaptation of a classic Chinese folktale of the same title. I believe that its strongest point is the soundtrack and the absurdly amazing animation quality. The fight scenes were sick and the emotional maelstrom throughout its run was fantastic.

Big Fish & Begonia

My personal favorite among all the Chinese anime movies out there is Big Fish & Begonia. It is so special that I couldn’t simply compare it with any other donghua. The animation quality is beautiful, the world-setting is fantastic, and the character development is heartbreaking. It feels like the plot is playing around with our sentimental heart. I love the character designs; they are all gorgeous; the characters are all interesting too.

Monkey King: Hero is Back

The most successful Chinese anime movies in the box office before NeZha took over its place last year. If you’re familiar with the story of Journey to the West and the Monkey King, this film should be added to your watchlist.

Crystal Sky of Yesterday

This is the closest Chinese anime that we can visually compare to the works of Makoto Shinkai. The animation quality is beautiful and filled with life. The visuals are gorgeous and the characters are also interesting. I believe that it could’ve been better but the whole film is really good despite some noticeable weaknesses.

The Legend of Hei

The Legend of Hei anime movie

This is the prequel anime film to the web series The Legend of Luo Xiao Hei. I love this film, the story is heartwarming, the characters are beautiful and relatable, and the animation quality is obnoxiously gorgeous. Among this list of Chinese anime, The Legend of Hei is the closest that I could compare to Japan’s Studio Ghibli works such as Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, and Spirited Away.

The King’s Avatar: For the Glory

This is a prequel story to The King’s Avatar main series. The movie took place before the main character became a professional e-sports player, detailing his journey when he started in the alliance, the heartbreaking and triumphant journey that he had to reach the top of Glory. You may want to check my full review of the anime film here: Chasing the Peak of Glory: The King’s Avatar Prequel Movie Review.

This is where I shall end my recommendation list. I do hope that I was able to help you find some hidden gems among the various Chinese anime that we have nowadays. I am also glad if you guys could offer some suggestions that you may have. Please drop a comment below to share yours.

"Tower of God" Archive: 25th Bam and His Complex Relationships

Posted by : zahid

It is our human nature to always look for something more beyond what we normally see on the surface. As a fan of the Korean webtoon series Tower of God by SIU, I always see people shipping various characters from the series. However, no other ships could top the complex relationship that 25th Bam or Jyu Viole Grace shared with almost every character from its story. In this post, I will highlight some of the most popular characters that were attached with Bam and what is his real relationship with them. After all, everyone wants to learn the real score between Bam and these various characters despite not having a canon or legit romance in the Tower of God story. It is all up to the fans to think about it and make things even more complicated with how they ship the characters.

Tower of God - Who do you ship with Baam?

With the anime adaptation of Tower of God from spring 2020 anime lineup, people are talking about the various characters from the series and what’s their relationship with our main character 25thBam. Therefore, I’ll make a short introduction about these various relationships from Tower of God and hoping that some people will enjoy it since I’ll also add some of my sugar-coated thoughts about them.

[WARNING: Please proceed with caution, following texts may contain spoilers]

25th Bam & Rachel Relationship

Tower of God "Bam and Rachel"

When I first watched the Tower of God, I really thought that Bam and Rachel are childhood friends who like each other or somewhat like a childhood sweetheart of a sort. However, when I delve deeper into its story and eventually read the webtoon, I was slapped by the bitter truth and harsh reality that waits to Bam. While most fans see Bam looking at Rachel on a romantic level, such a thing is not the truth as it seems that our main character looks up to Rachel as a mother or sister figure. Yes, Bam only sees Rachel as a mother or sister, more or less since she’s the first person that Bam had met.

As the story goes on, this relationship had turned sour, where Bam even threaten to kill Rachel if she keeps on putting the lives of his friends in danger. I believed this happened in the webtoon when Rachel almost killed Khun Aguero Agnis which puts the latter in a comatose state. As they both climb the Tower, Bam and Rachel had been rivals but our main character is so pure-hearted that he still wants to fight Rachel evenly, fair & square despite all the wicked tricks and schemes of Rachel.

25th Bam & Endorsi Jahad Relationship

Tower of God "Bam and Endorsi"

Here’s another complicated relationship that 25thBam shared with another female character of Tower of God – it is with Princess Endorsi Jahad. It all started a bit rough especially with Endorsi being a hard-headed princess that she is. However, Bam and crew were eager to befriend her. In the Hide & Seek game, we had learned of Endorsi backstory and also her first impression of Bam. At first, she thought of Bam as someone who is soft and doesn’t have the strength and resolve to climb the Tower. Yet, she gradually changed her opinion and eventually helped Bam on various occasions while also hiding her real feelings and still acting rough on the surface.

As they continue to climb the Tower, Endorsi had been a part of Shibisu team and eventually come across Jyu Viole Grace, later on, 25th Bam’s new name and persona. When Endorsi finds out about Bam and Viole being the same person, she helped him eventually and became an integral part of Bam’s journey in climbing the Tower. Endorsi had helped him a lot of times, and in some situations, she always drops hints that she may have some affection towards Bam. In various situations, we had seen them together like a couple dating each other, and Endorsi always acted like she is Bam’s girlfriend. Fans had always speculated of Bam and Endorsi romantic relationship but no such thing had been shown in the Tower of God's story yet. However, Bam treats Endorsi as one of his closest friends and he really cares for her. Endorsi also cared so much for Bam, which she went to confront Rachel a lot of times about why the latter keeps on betraying and hurting Bam.

25th Bam & Princess Ha Yuri Jahad Relationship

Tower of God "Bam and Yuri"

When Princess Ha Yuri Jahad first appeared in the story, we all think that she’ll play an important role in Bam’s journey towards the top of the Tower and it seems quite true. Yuri had become one of Bam’s strongest allies and even protected him a lot of times from his opponents – both from Jahad Army and F.U.G. Yuri even went too far by betraying King Jahad just to protect Bam. While we are aware that Yuri had taken a liking to Bam, it is too early to jump into a conclusion and see it romantically. Although Yuri seems quite annoyed when Endorsi gets too close and talking casually with Bam, which makes the two princesses a bit distant from each other (though Yuri had a teacher-sister relationship with Endorsi). As of now, I am more comfortable stating that Bam also sees Yuri like an older sister, and Yuri sees Bam like a younger brother that she needs to protect as she witnessed him destroying long-standing rules & traditions of the Tower. It seems like she’s among the princess who will vouch for Bam’s revolution in the Tower.

 25th Bam & Hwaryun Relationship

Tower of God "Bam and Hwa Ryun"

Alright, people romantically see them but I felt like they shared a master and follower relationship at best with Hwaryun playing the role of a mysterious guide who is devoted to fulfilling the desire of her chosen god. While Bam and Hwaryun had cute moments together and at some points, it seems quite romantic as it was really shown that they both cared for each other (especially when Bam went to save Hwaryun when she was taken hostage a lot of times). I think that Hwaryun is dedicated to Bam’s fate as someone who will change the Tower. She had chosen him as her god and she’ll do anything to guide him and enable him to fulfill his wishes, his desires, and his cause no matter what or who shall be the sacrifices. Nevertheless, Hwaryun has proven to be an integral part of Bam’s journey and I believed that she will do more in the future chapters of the story.

25th Bam & Khun Aguero Agnis

Tower of God "Bam and Khun"

If Tower of God is a boys-love story, then Bam and Khun Aguero ship is obviously our runaway winner. Throughout the story of Tower of God, we all know that Aguero is Bam’s best friend who supported him (and sometimes hinder him to avoid further trouble involving Rachel) in his journey in climbing the Tower. Aguero first takes a special liking to Bam and he only sees him as someone that he can use in the future but that eventually grows into a fond friendship. Bam also cares for Khun, and we see that he is willing to go far to even threaten Rachel, if she harms his friends again, after Rachel tried to kill Khun in the Hidden Floor of the Hell Train. While the Tower of God is not BL, fans could push for Bam & Khun, and I even noticed some scenes where they appeared to be close to each other physically. However, I rather want to keep the shounen vibes of Tower of God instead of going on heavy romance instead.

So far, these are the various characters that people ship with 25th Bam in the Tower of God. While there are other characters worth mentioning including Ehwa Yeon. We’ll definitely have to wait for more progress in the story of the Tower of God before we finally get some tea about the romance side. Meanwhile, I have started this Tower of God archive section here in the blog and if you wish to read more, you may want to check the following post:

Full-Time Magister (Quanzhi Fashi) Season 4 – Release Date & Trailers

Posted by : zahid

Chinese anime fans must be pretty happy with the announcement that Quanzhi Fashi or Full-Time Magister season 4 release date is scheduled on May 27, 2020. The avid fans of the anime had been waiting for this for over a year already since the finale of Full-Time Magister season 3 last 2018.

Quanzhi Fashi (Full-Time Magister) Season 4

Full-Time Magister had been one of the few Chinese anime that gained a lot of followers in the west and also started the new wave of Chinese animation popularity in recent years. The anime first premiered in 2016 and had been a contemporary to the phenomenal The King’s Avatar which is aired in early 2017. In my end, The King’s Avatar and Full-Time Magister were among my earliest Chinese anime influences and I am glad to discover Chinese animation because of them.

We have listed Full-Time Magister season 4 as one of the biggest and most anticipated Chinese anime of 2020alongside The King’s Avatar season 2which is slated for release in the 3rd quarter of the year.

Full-Time Magister Synopsis

The aloof high schooler Mo Fan has found himself in a universe similar yet distinctly different from his own mundane one; it's a place where magic has replaced the essence of science. Here, the most capable students are taught to master the wonders of spellworking to fend off large devastating beasts that lurk in the forests surrounding the city. Like his previous life, Mo Fan remains the son of a poor laborer and the older step-brother to a crippled sister. Despite these disadvantages, he dreams of attending a magic school to become a magician—a highly respected and lucrative trade—in order to repay his father for his hard work. Mo Fan is accepted into a renowned magic institution. However, rumors spread about his poverty and lack of magical ability, labeling him as the laughing stock of the school. Nonetheless, Mo Fan manages to harness not only the powerful fire element, but also the rare lightning element! Now armed with dual abilities, what dangerous encounters will the versatile mage face? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

We had seen the growth of Mo Fan and his friends during the last 3 seasons of Full-Time Magister. The animation quality was quite rough but it keeps on getting better every season while also giving us a consistent narrative of his journey as a genius mage while fighting demons and beasts.

Full-Time Magister Season 4 Release Date

In the latest trailer for Full-Time Magister season 4, the anime was revealed for release on May 27, 2020 as part of Tencent’s 2020 Chinese anime lineup. It is among the Chinese anime series from Tencent with releases this month, the others are Huangli Shi (The Chronologist), and Stellar Transformations (Legend of Immortal) Season 2 – both donghua already premiered in the first week of May.

The anime will be available for streaming at Tencent, and other affiliated online streaming services to Tencent. Mizure Subs also uploaded the donghua on their blog: My Anime Amigos! While there are various channels too where you can watch Full-Time Magister season 4 in YouTube.

Full-Time Magister Season 4 Trailers

So far, there are two available trailers for Full-Time Magister Season 4. The first one was released in December 2019 as shown below.

The new trailer which was released a few days ago officially unveiled the anime’s release date as seen in the video below.

Now as we are waiting for it to officially premiere, why not have a refresher of the anime with watching Full-Time Magister season 1-3. Since it’s been over a year that we aren’t able to see Mo Fan and the gang, it’s about time to refresh our memories of the events that took place before to make the excitement and experience even better when the 4thseason premieres.

If you wish to watch some more Chinese anime, I would like to recommend our post: List of Chinese Anime Through the Years (2000-2019) as well as our 2020 Chinese anime lineup for your reference.

Let us know your thoughts about Full-Time Magister and what part of its story appealed to you the most.

"Tower of God" Archive: How Strong is Anaak Jahad?

Posted by : zahid

Hey guys, this is my first entry for Tower of God Archive – which is a discussion thread in this blog dedicated to Tower of God (both anime & webtoon). For sure, many people want to learn more about Tower of God story and the characters in it since we have its anime adaptation making a buzz in the anime community recently. In line with this, I will start this thread with a question that anime viewers like us have in common – How Strong is Anaak Jahad? Yes, she’s really leaving a great impression to Tower of God anime viewers because of her impulse and savageness, thus most of us want to know more about her.

Tower of God "Anaak Jahad"

Before I proceed with this thread, I would like to inform everyone that I might drop random spoilers here from the webtoon. If you don’t want to get spoiled I have to warn you not to proceed, if it doesn’t bother you at all, then let’s get a cup of coffee then and start our discussion.

In this post, we shall answer the following questions:

  • Who is Anaak?
  • How strong is Anaak?
  • And check some interesting trivia about her

Let’s take a glimpse at Anaak background.

Who is Anaak Jahad?

Anaak enter the Tower in order to avenge her family who had been massacred under the order of King Jahad. Anaak real name was never mentioned but we could all assume that she is Anaak Jahad II. She is the daughter of the Jahad Princess Anaak Jahad (the original Anaak Jahad) and an unnamed father. Later on, their daughter used the name Anaak Jahad when she enters the Tower.

Tower of God "real Anaak Jahad"
Anaak's mother (the real Princess Anaak Jahad)

Jahad Princesses including her mother is not allowed to get married or have an intercourse in order to keep the power of King Jahad bestowed to them from spreading. However, her mother fell in love with a man and eventually went into hiding from the eyes of King Jahad.

Tower of God "Anaak Jahad"

Ever since her parents were killed by Jahad’s underlings, Anaak was filled with resolve to enter the Tower and get her revenge on King Jahad and anyone affiliated with him. This leads to her conflicting relationship with Endorsi who is a Jahad Princess during the start of the story.

How strong is Anaak Jahad?

With Anaak being a daughter of a Jahad Princess, this only means that a portion of King Jahad power also lives inside of her. This allows her to have enhanced strength and speed in combat compared to normal a Regular. In the entire story of Tower of God so far, Anaak is among those few Regulars with impressive physical strength, endurance, and resistance to blow.

Tower of God anime "Anaak vs Endorsi"

Anaak can fight equal ground with Endorsi despite only having a portion of a Jahad princess power, while Endorsi is a pure-blooded Jahad princess.

Tower of God "Anaak vs Khun Ran"

In the webtoon, she was able to fight evenly against Khun Ran (a genius from the Khun family) in the Plug Event in the Workshop Battle. If I remembered right, Khun Ran vs Anaak Jahad was such a huge hit at that time of the story among the regulars at 30th floor of the Tower. We have to take note that she fought Khun Ran here who had consumed a Thunder Pill (which enhanced his fight ability at a short period of time). Though Anaak was put at a disadvantage, she didn’t waiver her resolve to fight and even face Ran head on and stand her ground against him despite her heavy injury. She was also able to send Novick flying back when she kicks the latter who is from the branch of the Ha Family.

It is also noted that her incredible willpower is one of the reasons that is giving her immense strength. This willpower too sometimes put her at a disadvantage so many times because it makes her impulsive. One such cases is with her fight against a ranker Lo Po Bia Ren who almost killed her in the Floor of Test.

Tower of God "Anaak Jahad 4 baangs"

Anaak can also improve her speed and reflexes even more with her Shinsu Enhancement Ability. She was also shown using at least 4 bangs of shinsu at once during the Tower of God Part II which proves her exceptional skills on shinsu since it is not easy to accomplish such feat among regulars.

Tower of God "Anaak Jahad igniting Green April"
Tower of God "Anaak Jahad igniting Green April"

Anaak was shown to be capable of using various weapons including the Green April (one of the 13th Month Series and she could even Ignite it. She could use Green April efficiently and fiercely in any battle, she even forced Phonsecal Laure unable to attack during the Crown Game when she Ignited the Green April. Well, Anaak Jahad in the Crown Game truly cemented our great impression about her strength as one of the best among her peers. If you want to learn more about the other strong regulars from her batch, you may check our post: The Strongest Regular Characters from Tower of God anime.

In the later part of the story, Anaak was able to use a steel spear which most E-rank Regulars couldn’t even lift, further indicates the growth on her physical strength.

Trivia about Anaak Jahad

Tower of God "Anaak Jahad"
Meanwhile, I would like to share some trivias about our favorite green-lizard here from the Tower of God:

  • Full Name: Anaak Jahad Jr.
  • Age: 300
  • Height: 154cm
  • Affiliation: Shibisu Team

Anaak was one of the top 5 strongest regulars when she was still an E-rank. The others are Endorsi Jahad, Khun Ran, Chang Blarode, and Varagarv.

Anaak seems to be attracted to Shibisu (since she was rather jealous when Shibisu was drooling over Endorsi in one occasion when the latter is fighting the bull). She also knows some of Shibisu’s past.

Tower of God "Anaak & Endorsi"
One of Endorsi and Anaak's usual teasing moments.

Anaak had a conflicted relationship with Endorsi. Despite of being older, Anaak was often tease by Endorsi as her niece as the latter been acting like an older sister figure to her.

Alright, I hope you guys had found this post a bit interesting to some extent. After Anaak Jahad, let’s look forward for the next person in our list for this Tower of God thread and that is my favorite sleepy boy – Phonsecal Laure as we discuss about his family background and his strength. You may also want to check our previous about the strongest characters from the Tower of God anime adaptation which was based from the first part of the webtoon.

The Strongest Characters from "Tower of God" Anime Series

Posted by : zahid

Is the Tower of God anime adaptation stirred up your interest to read the webtoon already? There are tons of good reasons to enjoy and love Slave In Utero or simply known as SIU’s popular webtoon Tower of God. On my end, I am sincerely falling in love with its interesting characters, exciting plot twists, intriguing and well-built world-setting, and great character & story development. I have reached the latest chapter of the webtoon as of writing this post, and it is a fantastic and fun experience so far. However, in this post, I will solely discuss the Tower of God anime adaptation which is listed as a Crunchyroll Originals along with other popular webtoons such as The God of High School and Noblesse; which premiered last April 1 for the spring 2020 anime season.

Tower of God Anime Strongest Regulars

As I have mentioned, one of the reasons why I love Tower of God so much is the interesting characters from its story. In the webtoon, there are various characters that I fell in love with for many reasons, it might be because of their strength and attitude (Evankhell cough cough), or intelligence, or beautiful character designs, or they have an amazing backstory and likable personalities. Hence, in this post I will discuss the strongest characters from Tower of God, but it will only cover those characters that appeared in the anime adaptation so far. I don’t want to spill too much spoilers so I will only discuss about the Tower of God characters that appeared in the anime series. Although, I hope people will soon start reading the Tower of God webtoon especially those viewers who are enjoying the anime adaptation, I am 100% confident that you’ll enjoy the webtoon series even more.

Now, let’s start our discussion about the topic of who are the strongest characters from Tower of God? With similar setup to popular shounen anime nowadays, among the most notable aspects that fans generally looking forward in Tower of God is the strength of the characters. Questions such as who’s the most powerful among this set of characters? Or is that specific character really that powerful? We definitely have these questions and thoughts in our mind several times while watching the anime. As I’ve mentioned I will only cover characters that appeared in the anime, yet we also have to consider separating the regulars from the rankers. So, I will divide this post between the two. I will introduce first my top 10 strongest regulars from Tower of God, and then I will follow it by a short introduction to rankers, and even other characters such as Princess Ha Yuri Jahad, or the floor administrators. I also believed that Tower of God anime adaptation will cover the first season of the webtoon which will end at an exciting and shocking finale at Floor of Test.

Top 10 Strongest Regular from Tower of God (Anime)

10. Alexay / Aleksai Amigochaz

Tower of God anime "Alexay"

We have the red-colored winged-boy here. It was hinted that he is among the strongest regulars of their batch and he was shown to be sitting on a pile of bodies when the test on the 2nd floor had concluded. Alexay is quite durable and have incredible physical strength. His fighting style is quite similar to boxing, and he has the tendency to fight violently. He was assigned in the position of a spear-bearer.

9. Hwaryun

Tower of God anime "Hwaryun"

Hwaryun is our red-witch guide though she’s keeping a low profile in "Tower of God" season 1. Hwaryun is capable of utilizing shinsu to enhance her speed and strength since he is a wave controller. In the anime, we had seen that Hwaryun is capable of fighting on even ground with Endorsi Jahad, this is possibly because of her power too as a guide with her accurate predictions. Hwaryun has been seen using a Dual-Bladed Gold Long Staff and she used it magnificently in that fight in the Crown Game. In this period of time, Hwaryun seems to have more fighting experience than the other regulars, so she could easily defeat her peers aside from the succeeding characters in this list.

8. Bam

Tower of God anime "Bam"

Obviously Bam could top this list since he is the main character of Tower of God. He has so much potential inside of him and all those monstrous powers are just waiting to be awakened. Currently, Bam is like an innocent and fragile puppy until his bare his fangs to anyone who means harm to him and his desire to see Rachel. In the Crown Game, we had seen that he is capable of controlling shinsu on a different scale which surprised everyone. As the story goes on, Bam’s ability to learn skills and knowledge easily become noticeable. This is where we could see his progress, as he slowly awakened those hidden powers while slowly but effectively learning. Even in Floor of Test, Bam had been slowly showing a monstrous growth in his power despite having a timid appearance. He can easily control and even the reverse the flow of shinsu to leave his opponent immobile in a short period of time.

All his experience in the Floor of Test and battles that he fought will become the building block and stepping stone for him to further enhance his ability as a wave controller, and a fighter. Despite all of this, I am putting Bam at the 8th place here since he is still quite far from being the strongest among his peers during the timeline in the Tower of God season 1.

7. Rak Wraithraiser

Tower of God "Rak Wraithraiser"

We have our favorite turtle here and it’s Rak the mad chocolate eater. I won’t spill that much tea but Rak is an amazing character. He is like the unexpected independent variable in the story that could surprise anyone despite taking over the role of a comic relief in the story. Rak is a spear bearer and his offensive ability is strong enough that he passed the spear bearer test which makes him exempted for the game of Hide & Seek. Behind the comic relief aspect of his character, Rak sure have a real punch power. Rak easily passed through Lero Ro’s shinsu barrier, even faster than Khun Aguero Agnis. Rak is from the Wraithraiser species and a descendant of the Native Ones. Due to his lineage, he is quite physically strong and has high resistance to shinsu.

6. Khun Aguero Agnis

Tower of God anime "Khun Aguero Agnis"

A son of Khun Eduan from the 10 Great Families of the Tower, Aguero Agnis is quite the noble among his fellow regulars, although he was abandoned and considered as outcast by his family. He is aiming to overthrown his father as the head of the Khun family. Khun Aguero Agnis is the character that we both like and despise at some point due to his cunning and scheming nature. As a member of the 10 Great Families, he had strong physical abilities compared to normal people and while he is a capable fighter, his strongest point is his intelligence. He is manipulative, being able to bend the rules to his own favor. The only problem with A.A. so far is that he is quite weak when it comes to individual battle where he doesn’t have any pawns that he could use.

5. Hatz

Tower of God anime "Hatz"

A talented swordsman, Hatz exudes that powerful yet enigmatic nature which we could compare with Uchiha Sasuke from Naruto series. We had seen him fighting evenly with Anaak in the first test in the 2ndfloor. Along with Anaak, Hatz also easily passed through the shinsu barrier of Lero Ro indicating his strength. He also challenged a ranker in the Hide and Seek game where we had seen some of his sword-fighting skills. I believe that Hatz has the raw talents, but he doesn’t have proper technique yet. If he could have someone to mentor him on harnessing his talent in swords, Hatz could definitely do better in the future.

4. Anaak Jahad

Tower of God anime "Anaak Jahad"

Being the daughter of the real Anaak (the Jahad Princess), a portion of Jahad’s power is passed down to Anaak and with the Green April in her hand, she’s a real force that her fellow regulars feared. Paired with her stubborn nature, Anaak is a brute fighter, a fisherman whose fighting style is fierce and purely offensive. The only problem that we have with Anaak is her offensive style on which she emphasizes too much on brute force and relies on her instinct. She’s definitely a pure-blooded fisherman but a little habit of reading the situation and being cautious would always help her to do better in any fight. That is why I’m putting her at the 4thplace despite knowing that she has the capacity to overwhelm the next person in our list.

3. Phonsecal Laure

Tower of God anime "Phonsecal Laure"

Too much of being a lowkey, that it is easy to figure out that he is some kind of a big shot, Laure is from the Phonsecal family which is a branch of the Eurasia family – one of the 10 Great Families of the Tower. He is an exceptional shinsu user and arguably the best wave controller among his regular peers in the first season of Tower of God (since Bam’s power is not consistent yet at this stage of the story and he is more of a fisherman type of wave controller). He has the most efficient shinsu management abilities on which he could control shinsu in various ways and feats.

He usually sleeps most of the time, despite that he was able to easily pass through Lero Ro’s shinsu barrier and even challenge Anaak which leads the latter to snapped and ignite her Green April. Even at such disadvantage, he is quite excited to fight Anaak proving that he can still do more, and with his perceptive nature, I won’t be surprise if he can give Anaak a bitter pill of her own impulse. Laure also sees the potential in Bam’s ability as a wave controller which indicates his keen eyes and observant nature despite of sleeping most of the time. The reason why we have Laure in upper part of our list of strongest regulars from the first part of Tower of God is the fact that he is the best shinsu users among his peers. In terms of deductive and reasoning skills, I believe Laure is the best among his peers after Khun Aguero Agnis.

2. Endorsi Jahad

Tower of God anime "Endorsi Jahad"

We have Princess Endorsi  Jahad here. She’s someone that people will both like and hate at the same time especially during the game of Hide & Seek where we see a bit of her twisted personality and a glimpse of her backstory. While it might have been just a scheme of Khun, we could truly see Endorsi being a force reckoned with among the regulars in the Floor of Test. She had a portion of King Jahad power inside of her; she’s capable of handling Anaak’s brute fighting style; she could stand her own ground towards Hwaryun despite of the latter being a guide. She was also able to win the Hide & Seek game, being able to outwit the ranker Quant Blitz.

1 .Ghost / Akryung

Tower of God anime "Ghost"

Topping our list is a very strong character called Ghost. He was the underling of Headon who was assigned to help Rachel on climbing the Tower. Along with Bam, and Rachel, Ghost is also assumed to be an Irregular, and Endorsi stated that he is very strong. In fact, Ghost alongside Rachel and Endorsi were able to slaughtered almost 200 regulars in the Deathmatch Test. Ghost was assigned the position of a spear-bearer and was able to hit an extremely far target in his first try, proving his exceptional skills. Among the Regulars in the first season of Tower of God, Ghost definitely stands above everyone else when it comes to strength and power.

The Rankers/Etc

Tower of God anime "Leroro"

You might be wondering what are the rankers, the Jahad Princesses, and administrators as these are terms that we often see in the Tower of God. Let me introduce them one by one as follows:

Rankers

These are the regulars who had reached the top of the Tower and were given the special privilege to materialize their wish: be that desire is strength, wealth, or the privilege to work with the Jahad Army. Rankers may also work as mercenaries, or work in various factions in the Tower including the 10 Great Families, the FUG, etc. In Tower of God anime adaptation, we had met some of them including the following:

  • High Rankers: Princess Ha Yuri Jahad,  Evan Edrok,
  • Advanced Rankers: Hansung Yu
  • Rankers: Lero Ro, Quant Blitz, Yuga, Hax, Yu-Bok-Dol

Jahad Princesses

Tower of God anime "Ha Yuri Jahad"

These were the people who had been chosen by King Jahad to be his daughters and warriors. They are not directly related by blood. Most of them were from the 10 Great Families, while some are chosen from minor families or organizations. A portion of King Jahad power had been blessed into them once they were chosen and for the family where they came from, it’s a prestige to become a Jahad Princess. Among the Jahad Princesses that were introduced in the Tower of God animeare as follows:

  • Princess Ha Yuri Jahad
  • Anaak Jahad (real)
  • Endorsi Jahad
  • Khun Maria Jahad

Administrators or Floor Guardians

Tower of God anime "Headon"

These were the entity that people considered as gods of the Tower. Each floor in the Tower had an administrator and they are the strongest entity in their own floor. They have the power to bestowed strength or restrict anyone within their domain. So far there are only 2 administrators introduced in the Tower of God anime series and they were Headon (from the 1st floor – pilot episode), and the unnamed administrator of the Floor of Test.

Before I’ll end this post, I would like to ask for your opinions too about who do you think is the strongest characters from Tower of God anime series (regulars & rankers) as well as from the webtoon?  Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comment section below and I’ll be more than happy to know your opinions. While the anime is currently airing, we as fans could only expect for more exciting events to happen and hope that the anime adaptation will eventually live up to the hype of the webtoon. So far, I am sincerely enjoying it and I don’t see any reasons for the avid fans of the webtoon to be disappointed.
